» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Is God the Originator of Evil?

In a different thread, Migisi posted Isaiah 45:7...

In the King James Version, it reads:

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

Does this mean exactly how it sounds to today's English-speaking reader? Is God the creator of evil? And if so, does this mean that He created the foundations of evil or does it also mean that He continues to create and perpetuate evil?

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Other Versions

Same verse, but in different translations....

New King James Version:

I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the LORD, do all these things.'

New International Version:

I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.

New Living Translation:

I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the Lord, am the one who does these things.

The Message:

I form light and create darkness, I make harmonies and create discords. I, God, do all these things.

No.. as you have pointed out....

Is God the creator of evil?

No....

And if so, does this mean that He created the foundations of evil or does it also mean that He continues to create and perpetuate evil?

No.....

we know this because of the garden of Eden. God (the Lord Jesus) said to Adam, you cannot eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil..... Then later, He told Adam that if he ate from the Tree of Life, he would be as God, knowing good and evil.

and so.. Adam was banished and denied the Tree of Life, yet that, God kept the way open to the Tree of Life (which the result is seen in Revelation)

Why would Adam be like God, if God said this would be so?...

The LORD said:
.
"22For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. 23I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them. 24They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. 25The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs."
.
and
.
"39See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. 40For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. 41If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me. 42I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy."
