» _Boanerges_ - Sentencing someone to death

In response to Sentencing someone to death posted by Migisi:

Dan gave one example of how your moral absolute truths don't hold up, and I offered a couple more.

As I mentioned to Dan, I will respond to his example of Jim Jones as his example of how people morally presume that murder is acceptable. The case in this example is that what Dan presented are clearly not the facts.

I'm really not interested in discussing legalities surrounding capital punishment.

It really does not matter if you are interested or not. the subject here concerns with - what is true. The examples you gave do not stated that rape was acceptable in the OT times, nor was stoning a women who was raped. You offered something which the Bible does not make such a claim.

The fact that you do not agree with capital punishment has nothing to do with the absolute truth of whether Murder is relative according to individuals. This fact is demonstrated through-out human written history.

You have yet to provide even one example where the law of a people state that murder is morally acceptable, and you have yet to state your person view as to whether you agree that rape and murder are morally acceptable.

I am going to assume that you personally do not agree with this and in fact agree that these two are moral unacceptable in any situation, or with any peoples, cultures, etc.

If not, then you must provide and example of where this is true.

Need Windex for your glasses? I quoted verses DIRECTLY and VERBATIM from the Bible (post #86). And I gave chapter and verse for others (post #82). Look em up yourself.

» Migisi - Rape today

.
Rape fears lead women soldiers to suicide, death
https://www.vermontguardian.com/dailies/022006/020806.shtml#top
February 8, 2006
.
"NEW YORK - U.S. female soldiers in Iraq were assaulted or raped by male soldiers in the women's latrines, and an alarming number committed suicide, Col. Janis Karpinski reportedly testified before an international human rights commission of inquiry last month.
.
"Because the women were in fear of getting up in the darkness [to go to the latrine], they were not drinking liquids after 3 or 4 in the afternoon," Karpinski testified, according to a report on Truthout.org. "In the 100 degree heat, they were dying of dehydration in their sleep."
...
Sanchez's [former senior U.S. military commander in Iraq] attitude was: "The women asked to be here, so now let them take what comes with the territory," Karpinski quoted him as saying. Karpinski told Cohn that Sanchez, who was her boss, was very sensitive to the political ramifications of everything he did, Cohn reported.
...
"Even after more than 83 incidents were reported during a six-month period in Iraq and Kuwait, the 24-hour rape hot line was still answered by a machine that told callers to leave a message, Karpinski told Cohn."

» _Boanerges_ - restate your position

In response to Sentencing someone to death posted by Migisi:

I wanna be sure Mig that I understand what you are stating..

you are claiming that morals are relative? And, that this is an absolute truth?...

but.. how is it that your own declaration can contradict itself?

Are you standing for an absolute, or not? In fact, Dan raised the very same question, to which I agreed...

Now.. if you stand on your position, then you are saying that it is morally acceptable to rape and murder, even though you do not believe it is morally acceptable.

I wanna be sure I understand what your claim here is?

okie.. proceed.... happy

Seems every society has supported it, so war, murder, and rape must be absolute immoral truths.

Moving on. The human mind is capable of all sorts of interpretations.

War gives us a terrible example of what life is about. It plants seeds of destruction in the minds of everyone it touches.

God help us.

Or as the Irish Catholics say, "Saints preserve us."

You tell me.

"And he [David] brought out the people that were in it [Ammon}, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon..." (I Chronicles 20:31)

"Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished." (Isaiah 13:15-16)
.
"And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and woman..." (Ezekiel 9:5-6)
