Marriage counseling advice offered to a struggling couple: Get some sleep - in separate rooms. It worked wonders.

On reflection, I'm pondering whether it's the nation, not the individual, on a journey of self-discovery...with marriage. Society may now be asking: What do we need or want from marriage? Wedding is for the "moments like these you need Minties" but marriage is for the...birds? (Darn, twas on the tip of my tongue
)
Just over 30 years ago, 90% of Aussies were married by 30. Now, more than 40% of marriages end in divorce with most being sought by the wife. Lower birth rates, too. About 50% of Aussie households now contain only one or 2 people. Many reasons for all this.
Maybe the fact you and your wife never got past the honeymoon phase are for reasons peculiar to you. And you're outa step with US trends? TIC ABC

The idea of Self Discovery--itself--seems to be on the outs as far as society seems concerned today. People seem to look for a life style as though there were some store where they can find one to fit them hanging on a rack at a bargain price. With a double your money back guarantee, of course.
.
I could go into long explications regarding the ideas of "Structural Functionalism"/ but, I doubt that anyone would read them. However, that is where the problem exists as far as I can see.

In my previous life, ideas simply got re-badged into new labels so 'self-discovery' may have gone its way but the scent lingers on. It could also be 'structural functionalism' would smell as sweet by another name.
I suspect people look for the easy-fit as you suggest but this also turns to easy-approval. To me, a part of the problem is to see a problem...and I don't mean to argue. I'm not saying its time has come and gone, but its context may have properly changed. Sorta like the Christians who presumably stopped killing those pesky Protestants all that time ago. ![]()
Maybe there is now better quality over quantity in marriage...those that stay married, mean it

BTW: You did incite me to read non-fiction again. And to re-think your posts here.

You've hammered the idea of labels pretty good; so, I have to say something In defense of labels.
.
Labels are words. The thing I'm using to communicate with you carries a label--computer.
.
Labels are thoughts packaged up in easy to understand words so we don't have to go into complex explanations every time we want to communicate the thing we're thinking about each time we bring it up.
.
Nothing wrong with labels.

So, Spring is on the way for you down there and Autumn is just around the corner here.

But something's wrong with lazy labels IMO. And people who just use it as an icon for worship etc. 'Computer', a very simplistic label, is not of the sort I ever refer to...but you knew that, eh???
And twill be easier once Pink's private book of American labels becomes publicly available here. OEM ABC

OEM stands for opsoclonic eye movement!
I intro'd you guys to that word much earlier. You know, when/why someone rolls their eyes? Well, opsoclonic eye movement makes them go all over the place, totally out of control. Seems to fit in with an ABC.
