Maybe my point is that if we cannot address your behavior
You will have a difficult time selling to Suite101 that my behavior is anything less than acceptable in a normal discussion thread. In fact, you are the one who personally attacks PEOPLE and does not simply deal with the ISSUES.. You are a poor conversation host, Phil...
Get over me and concentrate on what you want to say, not, those who you cannot stand for what they believe....
:)
but.. I aint mad at ya for your shortsightedness.... It happens all the time in this world, and is probably one of the main reasons mankind is at each others throats... I'm not against you Phil.. In fact, there is nothing here that you can present that is anything less than being friendly in a discussion.....
contrary to your CLAIMS.....
case is dismissed... next question...

Maybe you're correct in your observations, Wendall.

I can consider it and I will pay close attention to my behavior in the future.
.
I can take criticism.

- Of course
I also agree with you that these discussion boards don't constitute "debate" in any kind of a proper sense. I meant it in a casual sense.
I actually agree with some of your suggestions, though. Having a community or two here within Suite dedicated to more scholarly discourse and/or to formal debate would be a very welcome thing.

- The way I see this
I realize that my way of seeing this may not be worth much, but here goes...
Phil strikes me as someone who enjoys thinking and discussing things outside the box. He likes to explore new possibilities, new insights, new ways of considering matters. Accordingly, he often will wander all over the map (or so it seems) because he's thinking "out loud" (or, in this case, via the discussion board). And he's feeling his way through.
Contrast that with Wendell, who is a very aggressive apologist for Christianity. Wendell's mind is set and his debating (I mean that in a conversational, not formal sense) style is very emphatic and is akin to that of a boxer in the ring.
Now, that said, Phil, you DO sometimes have the ability to unleash some real haymakers yourself.
Is "haymaker" the right word for a boxing analogy?
This is not meant to be critical or condescending. I can get defensive and tempermental myself. You've all seen that.
I think it would be helpful if we ALL remember that none of us wishes harm or misfortune on the other. We all wish health and safety toward the others. Even though our discussions can and do at times get heated, we need to try to keep it from getting too personal.
I enjoy the interactions with all of you. So, let's all have a group hug. What do you say??
:)

I think Jesus came against bullies--full blast.
Well, right. That would be you.
Only you can't seem to get it through your thick skull that Jesus came into the world to forgive all men of their personal sins. So He did oppose bullies like you and me, and at the same time He is the only man who ever lived that I know of that in the flesh forgave men of the sins.
But you can't keep making anti Christian statements about Jesus and expect men like Wendell to sit by and just whistle. Or me. I really don't mind it so much that you don't seem to have any real position that deals with Christ. But Wendell being a little more of a debate enthusiast seems to want to engage your stand alone theology more than most. Also, I think it interests readers to read posts about those who basically have come to disbelieve the bible and to discount the diety of Jesus, because it is unusual and they haven't heard many folk try to articulate their non faith in Christ. Maybe several years ago you had yourself convinced that you believed the same things as the original disciples of Christ, but obviously you have departed the faith of those original believers. But instead of actually articulating your non belief, you seem to enjoy posting about bullies, trolls, and pharisees. Maybe someday you will break out of the bonds that hold you and start sharing your beliefs about God.

That's a part of you that I respect and it is why I like to relate with Migisi. Being open minded is a super plus in my book.

In response to A Riot All By Yourself posted by pink101:I'm not sure why you seem to always want to go back to my actual name or want to come close to identifying me. Is there something wrong with me opposing your views about Jesus? Is that unfair just on its own merit, that you feel some need maybe to send somebody over to my house. Is there no end to your bully behavior?
Anyway here are some verses that speak to the nature of sin and how Jesus heals each of us. You won't agree with any of them, but here are just a few from Rom 3.
21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished- 26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
