But I think you ARE right if you mean that a person who argues is more likely to get a response than one whose posts may simply call for agreement. So WHY do I come here if I won't or can't accept that truth.
.
I don't have the answer.
.
But, have you noticed the difficulty the Evangelicals are having in the Deconstructing Christianity thread in being objective about what it is that they claim to believe?

- What is "being objective"?
I think some people here have a faulty understanding of what it means to be "objective."

I'm open to being taught if you think I'm one of those who have a faulty understanding.

What bothers me is this tone (I see it sometimes from you, often from Migisi) that only Christians have a hard time with objectivity.
Moreover, the test of objectivity - to you and Migisi and other non-Christians - seems to be how quick a Christian willingly sets aside his or her faith-based preconceptions and understandings in the face of questions or criticisms.
It's like you and Migisi and other non-Christians (not all, but many) are saying: "If a Christian stands firm on what he or she believes, that person can't possibly be objective."

Well, don't forget, Brian, you come here with an attitude about the enemies of God. Logically, by declaring anyone a non-Christian, they are automatically being assigned the identity of an enemy of God.
.
That can create a problem.

I know plenty of Christians who claim that many of their Christian friends, no matter how committed they are, may still have many errors in their beliefs.
.
And I know plenty of them that have spent endless hours attempting to show each other the error of their ways.
.
Are you saying that a Christian cannot change their mind about some thing or other except they lose their faith?
.
If you hold a belief that latter you find to be incongruant with your over all beliefs, don't you want to learn about it so you can improve your understandings?
.
So, what's wrong with questioning and doubting?

Yep. But, hey, ya can't blame them for that. That's what the Bible says.

It seems to me that when I attempt balance in my posts by suggesting there are challenges in objectivity for Christians and non-Christians alike, I belong possibly somewhere in the 2-group of "(not all, but many)" This safely covers the fact my related posts actually pass you by under the weight of others.
When either sides retreats to their defensive positions, I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't if I enter the debate. Is that objective or a futile whinge into the wind? I'm not seeking to be 'Named' here but there really aren't many posters here. My friendly little reminder.

This first item, "Bill Moyers' Keynote Speech at Media Educators' Conference", gives some pretty good insight into objectivity vs. subjectivity if any one truly cares.-- posted by pink101
