» pink101 - HideThe Evil

.
It is interesting to note that the religionists--of every stripe--almost always consider they are involved in a struggle that is seen as a battle of good (them as God's agents) against bad (any who stands in opposition to their ideologies as the Devil's agents).
.
Converts--both young and old--are taught early on that, when they are being faced with thoughts that give them doubts, they must turn away and not allow themselves to be exposed to whatever it is that is raising any doubts in their minds.
.
Once, a human mind has had it thoroughly inculcated into their mind that they are involved in a battle against evil, any compunctions against doing harm to the enemy is removed. If the enemy is a blood relative or a far removed person of a different race, that makes no difference. The fear and, thereby, hatred of all opposition motivates the most ardent fervor to fight the good fight against evil whenever it raises its ugliness. Don't forget, in the final analysis, the enemy is the Devil itself in all its vileness--even though it disguise itself as your lover and spouse.
.
Maybe there is a tendency to be genteel as long as there can be any question that being too outwardly aggressive might rouse anti-religionist feelings in the minds of any onlookers and lurkers. But, once the gloves are off, all Hell breaks loose as in war; which, by the way, is what it is. For those who haven't heard, it will be culminated in a terrible and bloody battle at which time all evil shall be defeated for all time.
.
The metaphorical values of seeing two sides in such a battle allows religionists of every stripe to line up on one side or the other. Thus, many spokespersons of Islam paint America with the identity of the Great Satan. And, many religionists, here in the West, paint Islam with an identity of evil-making them enemies of God. So, it is easy for all parties to slip into an all out physical war in which millions of people on all sides might be killed.
.
Living in a world of pretense allows all followers to be in denial of any outer reality.

Once again, I can only speak for myself. But I don't hate Christianity's opposition just as I don't hate people who disagree with me.

And I don't tell people to simply "turn away and not allow themselves to be exposed to whatever it is that is raising any doubts in their minds." I don't believe Christianity should be sustained with one's head in the sand. I'm a Christian. Not an ostrich.
