I also believe the struggle with ourselves and others, and with the ONE, comes when we try (or are pressured) to follow another path rather than the one specifically selected by the ONE for ~each~ of us.

That doesn't seem to make sense. If by the One, you mean God, then why would a person oppose God's will in their life. Your philosphy seems to always come back to a notion that a person should be able to do whatever they damn well want to do with their life without any interference from God.

i am the Lord's oldtimer.

Okay, sorry about that. I read it without the qualifier 'rather.' So I guess my question comes back to how would you know God's will for your life without some very intense soul searching?

Maybe so and maybe not. The idea that mankind can discover and reinvent his own god from time to time is the basis for chaos, confusion, and assigning multiple personalites to God, imo. The reason that Jesus sent disciples 'into all the world to teach' the gospel was that a human being could never discover what happened at Calvary if left totally on his own. (How many beautiful sunsets and flowers gardens would a person need to see to understand why Jesus had to die on a Cross?)

And how would we ever discover that we are expected to lay down our very lives for our enemies, if called upon. Seeing the beauty in Nature is one thing. Seeing the image of God in our worst enemy is truly the rub in having faith in Jesus Christ.

You have asked the question, Brother Jones.
.
How many beautiful sunsets and flowers gardens would a person need to see to understand why Jesus had to die on a Cross?
.
Now, YOU are positioned to condemn all of us. Go ahead, give us your answer to the question. And, while you're at it, show us where God has given the condemnation. Prove that it is NOT the priesthood that makes the condemnation.
.
This is something I would really like to see.

.
The Bible God has multiple personalities. The scriptures depict him as an angry, vengeful, murdering, intolerant tyrant - AND - an all-loving, forgiving, and compassionate deity. Each Bible writer appears to have had his OWN mental picture of who God was. Comparing the OT to the NT God, it appears to me that God was 'reinvented'. Clearly, Jesus himself had a different picture of God than the Jewish priests did. And it's evident ~to me~ that Christians today have their own picture of who God and Jesus were and are - though they read the same scriptures. Review the posts and articles here at Suite, and other faith discussion venues. Personal discovery and reinvention might explain the chaos and confusion that exists in Christianity, and why there are so many denominations and Bible versions.
.
The reason that Jesus sent disciples 'into all the world to teach' the gospel was that a human being could never discover what happened at Calvary if left totally on his own. (How many beautiful sunsets and flowers gardens would a person need to see to understand why Jesus had to die on a Cross?).
.
IMO, your spirituality is myopic. There IS a bigger spiritual picture - which even your Jesus offered to you, but you refuse to see it.
.
And how would we ever discover that we are expected to lay down our very lives for our enemies, if called upon.
.
WHO is your enemy? WHY is he your enemy? WHO calls you to die, and for WHAT reason? If Satan is your enemy, would you lay down your life for him?
.
Seeing the beauty in Nature is one thing. Seeing the image of God in our worst enemy is truly the rub in having faith in Jesus Christ.
.
In a different time and place, under different circumstances, your 'worst enemy' may not have been your 'enemy' at all, but your loved one. Think on that. It's easy if you try.

.
Your post with your comments and questions open the basic question about the struggle we see in Judaism as it is presented in the Bible.
.
On one side the priesthood claims to speak truth and on the other we have an opposition that claims a different truth.
.
The curious thing is that the opposition seems to embrace the very thing with which it comes into opposition.
.
This presents us with a major question that is not only unanswered; but, almost totally ignored by present day Christianity. There seems to be an unspoken rule that one cannot speak against their own ideologies.
.
I think this situation contributes to our confusion.

I had an absolutely wonderful and inspiring discussion with a 10-year-old girl about spiritual things yesterday. Kids see things so clearly. We smarty-pants adults only muck it up. Jesus knew it...
.
Matthew 11:25 - "At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children."
