» Migisi - Christianity... as Legend

.
From your article:
.
Why Christianity is Seen as Legend
http://protestantism.suite101.com/blog.c...
.
Evangelicals, including most Protestants, believe that the Scriptures contain God's primary revelation to the human race - and that it is NOT the purview of the church - any church - to enunciate doctrine that deviates from recorded Scripture. (Of course, there are differences in how Christians interpret and understand Scripture).
.
Given these 'differences', it does appear that each denomination does 'enunciate doctrine' based on their own interpretations and understandings. Right? How does a person know which enunciation is the correct one?
.
"He is and should be the focus of all our study.... We must therefore go "back to the basics" and return our focus and attention to the one whom Christianity is all about.
.
Good idea. Can you list what you've studied and know about Jesus' life, and provide some secular evidence to support it?

I guess Brian's final statement, We must therefore go "back to the basics" and return our focus and attention to the one whom Christianity is all about., begs the question, O.K., what was that one all about? That's pretty much the same as what Migisi has asked in her post.

In response to Christianity... as Legend posted by Migisi:

Migisi, once again, you keep beating this horse. You are asking for an unfair standard. Please read the following carefully....

If we define "secular" as non-Christian, then there is NO "secular" evidence to affirm Jesus as God.

Why, you ask?

Because once evidence affirms Jesus to be God, it ceases to be "secular."

YOU are setting up an impossible standard simply by the terminology.

In response to Christianity... as Legend posted by pink101:

It's not as hard as people make it out to be. We KNOW what the early first century church believed concerning Jesus Christ, and those expressions of belief in him are within just a few years of his life. There are creedal passages, for example, which can be lifted from some of Paul's letters - creedal passages that even many liberal historians acknowledge are from the early church. That means you have a written record of people worshipping Jesus as God as early as the 40s AD - within a decade of Jesus' crucifixion. Some date the creedal passages even to the 30s AD.

Bottom line....it's not that hard to get back to the basics when it comes to Jesus.

Reread my question. I didn't ask for secular evidence "to affirm Jesus as God". You're right... that would be religious creed and not qualify. I only asked for secular evidence of his existence - his life. Why isn't there any, given his notoriety (per the Gospels)? One would think there'd at least be some documentation of hearings and legal proceedings before the Sanhedrin and Pilate. You implied before that Jews and Romans kept good records.

.
I have read reports that crucifixion crosses where so numerous all over Judea that they were like trees here and there--common instruments of execution that demonstrated what it meant to go against the grain of imperial rule.
.
People hanging from crosses--impossible to ignore. It is imaginable that people would have had conversations with the convicted victims as they hung up there eventually giving up the struggle to stay alive and just dying the sudden death of suffocation. What a horrid situation; but, the Roman conquerers were explicitly cruel.
.
So, it would be easy to think of Jesus as being all men--Sons of Man and of God--dying for standing up against any authority for all of us.
.
I can almost hear them saying, "Look at me up here! I'm dying for you to set an example so you stay in line to the accepted authority."

And? I don't think we're questioning that. You're talking about 'belief'. That by itself is not evidence of reality or truth, but only evidence that some people believed something was real and true. There were a lot of beliefs that turned out not to be true (flat earth, dome/globe universe, etc.).
.
There are creedal passages, for example, which can be lifted from some of Paul's letters - creedal passages that even many liberal historians acknowledge are from the early church.
.
The sources of those credal passages were from believers, mostly transmitted orally in and between churches, until some were written down. Did all the orators and writers get it right - or did they inject their own personal beliefs into it? Who today can know for sure.

lol.

You don't even put a qualifier in your statement..just stand up against any authority. That is why your ideas continue to underscore that you have no need of any god or man. You are in head over heels love with dissent and rebellion. And in your mind, so was Jesus. But it would be hard for you or anyone else to calculate why Jesus is so prominent today. So you and migisi are left with the idea that Jesus Christ is the biggest Hoax of history. Just one big tale told by hundreds of Jewish liars.

i am the Lord's oldtimer.

I think it is easy "to calculate why Jesus is so prominent today." It's the same reason why the prophets were so prominent in his time. People love the law of right and wrong. It makes life easy.
