In response to This whole discussion... posted by Migisi:

That was extremely rude on her part, Migisi. Not a very good testimony. I don't cut people off socially or any other way when and if they indicate beliefs different from my own.

The Bible teaches that we are to love everyone, and that includes non-Christians. So, that lady did wrong by you.

But two wrongs don't make a right. Thus, IMO, it's inappropriate for you to render a judgment on Christians or Christianity in general, because of the actions of a few or even several self-proclaimed Christians.

I'm catching up on all this. My take...

Wendell, I agree with the content of what you're saying. Unfortunately, it's been lost in the shuffle, due to the way you're saying it.

Pink, for whatever it's worth, you ARE an intelligent person. And, I think Wendell said that as well. You are intelligent, thoughtful, curious, and deeply committed to talking issues through. When I think of you, I think of the ancient Athenian assembly. You would've been there every day. happy

Still, if you can set aside Wendell's use of the word "fool," I would like to respectfully ask that you consider his basic point - one that I second.

You are making some very STRONG, DECLARATORY, and JUDGMENTAL statements against Christianity. It is reasonable for me, Wendell, Brother Jones, and others to then ask what your objective, external standard is for such judgments.

Poppycock and all that falderow aside, Brian.

Forget the Athenian Forum--this is here and it is now. I try to stay away from fantasies as much as possible.

You say that you "agree with the content of what [Wendell] is saying. Unfortunately, it's been lost in the shuffle, due to the way [Wendell is] saying it."
.
So, what IS the content of Wendell's posts?
.
Think, Your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear what you're saying.
.
What is the man saying if he is not saying that I am a fool?
.
Why should I set aside the knife that a man stabs me with?
.
Huh?
.
How about a straight answer?

Let's be a little reasonable here.
.
Why would you put any effort out to bring a person into a relationship with God if you didn't believe they were outside such a relationship?
.
Is not your idea of bringing a person in to a relationship with God precluded by the idea that you must first locate them outside that relationship. Is that NOT where you and all your cohorts here have put me in your minds?
.
At least, be honest to yourself.

» _Boanerges_ - The Definition

Phil stated: "By doing so, they set all people out as being divided into two camps"
I asked: "is... that an absolute truth!?!?!?!?!..."
Phil said: "I am addressing the position taken by persons who claim to have a superior relationship with God as a result of whatever it is that they claim in absolute truth".
My point is simple.. You (meaning whoever) cannot use a fallacious argument to prove a premise.. Its simple deductive reasoning... To claim to be against an absolute truth, then make an absolute statement is not only absurd, but FOOLISH....
I claimed not that YOU Phil ARE A FOOL.. (as mentioned).. but that you are MAKING YOURSELF OUT TO BE A FOOL....
but.. of course... you could simply answer the question I asked back in post #5 (or so).... It appears you are avoiding that intentionally.... Therefore, you stand as a foolish man..
NOT ON MY AUTHORITY... but by YOURS..... (Ive only used your words...)

» _Boanerges_ - You tell me

Phil:You tell me I'm a fool and dumb; then you have the unmitigated gall
wendell: "uhmm... I'm sorry Phil.. but the record of these discussions clearly show that my claim is that you are PRESENTING yourself as such... You could always repent (which means to 'turn around') and show yourself tonot be foolish simply by addressing the error of any of my arguments present here!... okie.. have at it.. and if you *win*, you [will not] [look] like a fool any longer... people are forgiving, Phil, as long as you are able to admit you were indeed acting and looking foolish.. and - still are....sad If you are not a fool, Phil.. then come back with an answer to my argument presented to you from your own silly statements... its called - deductive reasoning.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deductive_r...
An example of deductive reasoning is the following:
All men are mortal (major premise),
Socrates is a man (minor premise),
Therefore Socrates is mortal.
Note that replacing "mortal" with any nonsensical property will not affect the validity of the argument:
All men are purple-skinned,
Socrates is a man,
Therefore Socrates is purple-skinned.
"Intuitively, one might deny the major premise or the conclusion; yet anyone accepting the premises must accept the conclusion."
Wendell adds: therefore, all men ARE NOT PURPLED SKINNED!...
now Phil.. a FOOL will claim that ALL MEN ARE PURPLED SKINNED...
and that, my friend, is what makes you a fool... not because of MY authority, but based UPON YOURS!.....
which. denying such makes you even worse than a fool.. it makes you a wilfull idiot, whose only purpose is corruption and false claims....

Wendell, you are attempting to play the intellectual. You might fool some; but, you don't fool me.
.
I'm not debating anything here. A debate is a formalized discussion in which contestants agree to certain rules--a judge or judges decide the outcomes of any such interaction between participants That's YOUR game. And, in a debate, the outcomes do NOT have to take a stand for truth as they would in the real world--they only must stand on the premises as they state them. I don't debate with you as you would want to be the prosecutor, judge, and jury. That is plain simple mindedness.
.
You are alone, in my mind, barking at the moon. But, like I said, you might fool some.
.
So, your interpretation of what is taking place is just that--your interpretation. But, in your circumscribed world, you are correct. The problem is that your circumscribed world is solipsistic and it belongs to you and others who decide to join you.
.
My ideas are quite different and they give rise to my opinions.
.
Your problem is that you don't have any opinions of your own. Everything you espouse is something you get out of a book or books.

.
You've heard it said "actions speak louder than words", and "one picture is worth a thousand words", right? I hear a lot of Christian talkers, but it's SO rare to observe any Christian walkers. Even a child can see the obvious hypocrisy in "do as I say, not as I do".
.
EVERY Christian needs to really examine their attitudes and outward behavior towards other people. The Christian lady's rude and obnoxious behavior in the diner was blatant, for all to see. It was clearly inappropriate for her to judge me unworthy of common courtesy simply because I'm not Christian. It's easy for you to rebuke and condemn her for it. But, upon self-examination, how many professing Christians, including you (if you're honest with yourself), ~secretly~ commit similar sins of religious bigotry? And how many misuse Scripture to justify it? Here, in this little Christian forum, I can find many examples.

My ideas are quite different and they give rise to my opinions

yeah.. but who cares about your opinions? or mine for that matter.. when making a claim, and it is fallacious, it is rejected... not by my authority.. but by your own claim.. its SELF_REVEALING...

You claim to stand against those who make claim to an absolute truth.. yet, you make an absolute statement... do you not realize the silliness and foolishness of such a position..

It does not bother me that you attempt to make a "personal claim" against me, to justify your position. that, is in itself a simple fallacy.. and the wise man - rejects it as nonsense.....

but.. you can continue looking intellectually foolish - or - you can simply address the question that you are avoiding at all costs..

none are fooled..... only you.. and you are not even fooled.. it has now because intentional deception.... sorry... but.. I have to reject your claims based on your illogical (irrational) statements, based upon your authority, not mine... you stand and remain - foolish..

That should somewhat embarrass you.... It certainly doesnt look good for your intellect to stand around and bark out the same old fallacy argument... its rejected as simple nonsense.... happy

on the other hand.. you could become a little more reasonable (logical statements) and admit that your statements are rejected as fallacious.... if not.. what does it really mean to me? nothing actually!.... Its your position, not mine!
