In response to the bible posted by Brother_Jones:
.
Evidence is a form of proof obviously but not necessarily providing enough proof for you.
.
Evidence is proof. Proof is proof. If there is any, provide it.
.
I am glad you are open for a discussion concerning the likelihood of things written about in the bible being true.
.
I'm always open for discussion. Proceed with your presentation of proof and truth.
.
I have never seen a good reason to deny Christ or confess that He was an unreliable source of information about God.
.
You've 'never seen', because you've ~choosen~ not to. And that's okay with me. But I ~have~ seen good reason to examine the belief system I was raised in, and I can tell you first-hand that it's NOT 'so easy' for someone to detach themselves.
.
Usually an incident sets things in motion like a divorce, matters of the heart, or a national disaster like 911. Then thoughts of God get researched by listening, praying, and good reading.
.
So, accepting Christianity is an emotional response to fear, depression, and anxiety -- rather than an intellectual rational decision. Okay. I get that. An emotional crutch.
.
Have you ever read these books? Do you know of what you have posted here?
.
Yes, some. Have YOU looked at any of them yourself with open eyes? Without your Christian blinders on?
.
Well, I assume you as a parent gave some advice on whether following Jesus was a good idea as opposed to following Babe Ruth.
.
Depends on how good a baseball player Jesus was. What was Jesus' batting average?
.
I mean once you detach from any and all religious figures, then I suppose that a discerning parent would tell a child that Jesus was mostly like the tooth fairy, but did have a few good ideas.
.
Jesus was a ~MAN~ with a 'few good ideas' (if he really existed at all, that is). He wasn't and isn't a god, or ~the~ GOD. And he certainly wasn't and isn't the ONLY ~man~ with good ideas.
.
Maybe you could share what you would now tell your grandkids about Jesus. I would imagine that you would tell them to 'fend for themselves,' when it comes to religious ideas and not really get involved. I may be right in saying something like this about you.
.
You're still new at grandparenting, Jones. Trust me, you'd be wise to leave religious indoctrination to their parents. When the grandkids are older and able to discuss their views, I'll share mine with them - if they ask ... as I have with their parents ... allowing each the freedom to believe what they want.
