"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

This saying was a favorite of President Harry S. Truman.

I don't think Truman ever owned a kitchen or spent much time thinking about poisoned food when he spoke this. Maybe he did. Some of the stories like the story of Noah don't lend themselves to a quick lunch. But if you want to daily visit this story with a view to 'annialate' God, you have chosen the right venue. There is nothing more than I can say about this section of text that would be helpful to those who are closed to the idea of God working in the history through the supernatural. This is become a daily meeting of sceptics and agnostics, and one believer. Even Wendell has gone missing. lol. You choose to spend your days attacking the scriptures of others. I guess it is too bad that you don't have any scriptures or any beliefs in a god so that you might be able to observe my behavior when I discussed your beliefs. It might surprise you.

.
I have never been shy about expressing my beliefs in any way that allows you to discuss them. As far as anyone has been able to discern, your discussion of them amounts to such scoffs as, slippery liberal, and so forth. You and the other religious participants here claim you have discovered absolute "truths" or "The Truth" and you flat out do not give any leeway on your dogmatic positions--period. You expect to be given support for what you claim to be the truth and you cower in the presence of any outside chance that you might find yourself in a place where you could even begin to have any doubts whatsoever. You are afraid of evidence and turn a blind eye toward it if it has a chance of surfacing.
.
That's fine--no one here has told you that you must change your ways in so far as I have seen. But, you have been quite obvious about your claims that you are on the proper path and that those of us who do not agree with you are hell bound for not changing our ways.
.
You just don't get it that you are the one that not only doesn't want to be questioned; but, that you are the one who seeks constant support for his beliefs. This last and "shot" of yours is a good example.
.
So, run and hide.
.
Just don't blame others.
.
Accept responsibility for your own self.
.

Have you received a 'higher message' - a revealed inspiration for our spiritual enlightenment - from the Noah legend? I know Jeff was asking for one. I was hard pressed to find and offer one myself. Do you think this legend is merely a historical account - as you simply put it: 'God working in the history through the supernatural"?

How would you go about defining spiritual enlightenment?

I am unaware that you have a spiritual insight. It would appear that anyone who denies the spirit world would not have a belief in spirits. Am I missing something?

I posted a sort of summary in my post #1162 to those who have a faith in the spiritual. The story of Noah concerns faith and redemption. However, if you don't believe in spirituality, then it going to be pretty hard to come up with a message in the story.

God, according to this text, teaches us through history and our interaction with Him. I do believe the events recorded happened. Why would you feel that you need to come up with a message for an event that you believe is legend put together by men motivated to repress other men? What good message would come from that? You have discounted all the stories so far to that basis, I think. So the scriptures become to you just like the newspaper comics. Or old false accounts. Everything will adjust back to the main motive of the writer to contrive to keep you and Pinky subject to religion. Why not just go pursue a spiritual life, instead of this daily one act play of blaming men for the bible?

Do you ever have any spiritual thoughts about a spirit world? If so, would it please you if there were another world of spirits?

In response to The Job posted by Brother_Jones:

I hear tell there are many dimensions in which reality exists.
.
I guess there is some evidence that it is so--mathematical, etc. I don't doubt the existence of such; but, I do not know.
.
Careful reading of the Bible lets us know that there are two distinct dimensions covered by the Gospel--one societal and one spiritual.
.
There is a great deal of evidence in Scripture to show that there is reason to believe that the Gospel is two fold; one for the societal life and one for the spiritual--eternal existence which is difficult for most to comprehend. We only see poorly through a dark and cloudy glass.
.
Yet, we are deluged by religionists who spend much time trying to convince the rest of us that there is no such thing as a spiritual world even while they try to persuade us that there is such a dimension--double speak. Heaven's highway and inner city streets are paved in gold and people might even have their pets there with them. It gets to be pretty complicated after a little thought.
.
How do they deal with that when they are so confronted?
.

Why would it matter? Is there some desire that you haven't shared that would cause you to want to spend more time with Jesus? Not only does it appear that you don't actually believe in a god, it appears that you are clueless as to what function God would serve if He existed. What would be the point of your god? Just to house, feed, and make sure that our lives are fairly comfortable.

You have evolved to the point that Jesus can't answer your questions because His words don't specify whether the universe is bounded by time, eternity, or some kind of an elaborate wall. Usually when a person gets to that point, they aren't so much giving up on streets of gold and a favorite cat, but they have given up on seeing spouse or parent or God.

.
I grabbed these key lines from your post 1162. Is this the 'higher message' you get from the Flood legend?
.
"Your sins are about to find you out. Justice will overtake you at some point..."
.
You're going to get what you deserve.
.
"I see God not wanting to punish but to save."
.
God does things that he really doesn't want to do.
.
"Even if it means a small remnant as we have here in the story of Noah..."
.
Could you elaborate on what you mean above? I do wonder how many might've 'seen the light', repented, and had faith like Noah... had God not drown them.
.
The story of Noah concerns faith and redemption.
.
That blanket statement could apply to every story in the Bible, no? How does this legend ~specifically~ relate to faith and redemption? Is it simply that Noah deserved to be saved because he had faith?

We can see by whatever light we have been given. We have the light of Jesus in modern times. If you choose to blame God in the ancient time for taking the lives of the ancient folk without cause, then have at it. This is the story you have to hit the jackpot. We only have a few sentences to arrive at the message that evil had corrupted even the innocents.

That blanket statement could apply to every story in the Bible, no? How does this legend ~specifically~ relate to faith and redemption? Is it simply that Noah deserved to be saved because he had faith?

You promised to help finish this story. Remember? Maybe when we get closer to the end, you will see something in the text. I hope so. It appears that you might be opening up a little.

I think you express a strange and childish interpretation of what it means to believe in God. If you'll pardon me, it's not very deep at all--very much as though it compares to stories like Jack and The Beanstalk, Seven At A Blow, and Rapunzel With The Golden Hair. But, you'd have to elevate your thinking and take down those barriers you have built up in your own mind that protect you from having an open mind.
.
But, as I've seen in written at this site, whatever floats your boat.
.
I suppose your view proves the saying, If Ignorance** Were Bliss, You'd Be In Heaven.
.
** Ignorance. The actions of a person who completely ignores reason in their thinking processes.
