» Migisi - Closing Chapter 8

.
20 Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. 21 The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.
22 "As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease."

.
The "pleasing aroma" (?) of burning fur, feather, and flesh must've caused God to remember the wonderful creatures he'd made, but destroyed in anger. That memory triggered remorse.
.
Back in Chapter 6, God regrets his own creative handiwork - and decides that the whole of creation will pay for Man's wickedness. He repeats this here in vs 21 "...because of man". Man made God do it. God defers to Man all responsibility for Earth's destruction - even though Man had no hand in flooding the earth.
.
God makes a blanket condemnation that "every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood" - therefore, children are entirely evil too - thus alleviating his guilt and justifying his earlier drowning of babies and children.
.
I wonder if, before or during Noah's sacrifice, Noah had questioned God's reasoning and morality for doing so - and this prompted God's explanation, and the promise that he'd never again alter the Earth's seasons which caused the catastrophic flood.

hi Mig... hope you had a gr8 Thanksgiving! I know that you did.. wow.. its over already. time is flying by... at least for me.. I guess this happens when you get closer to 50 than you are to 40!..?..
anyway.. back to "deserve"... I am not sure who makes the claim, but.. people believe the deserve things.. advertising highlights this greatly.. Mccy D's.. "you deserve a break today".. etc...
Personally, I dont believe that anyone deserves anything...
on a side note.. Phil said that life was wonderful.. but your story, which is a sad one, does not reflect his viewpoint.. I said that most people know that life is miserable.. I read an article the other day that claimed over 6000 soldiers committed suicide last year alone, due to war..
If that is true.. then.. ?....

pertaining to your above statement
----------------------------------

"I wonder if, before or during Noah's sacrifice, Noah had questioned God's reasoning and morality for doing so"

not sure of the basis of the discussion because I have not been following it.. but.. I believe that Noah did not believe God would really do it... If you read the text closely, you will see that it was God who shut Noah in!....

what could this mean if Noah was the only one uncorrupted in his time...???... any thoughts?

.
I had a great day. Thanks for asking. happy
.
Personally, I dont believe that anyone deserves anything...
.
And me personally, I don't think anyone can determine what another person deserves. I agree with Solomon on this:
.
Eccl 8:14 - "There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: righteous men who get what the wicked deserve, and wicked men who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless. 15 So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun."
.
6000 soldiers committed suicide last year alone, due to war..
.
I read that too, here:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/wo...
.
Quite sad. Do you (or anyone) know if families can receive/collect military death benefits if the cause of death on a soldier's death certificate is listed as suicide? I know private life insurance carriers won't pay out for suicide.
.
I believe that Noah did not believe God would really do it...
.
Noah didn't believe God would follow through with his threat after God revealed it directly to him? Would Noah have spent 100 years building an ark (Noah was 500 years old when first mentioned - 600 years when he entered the ark)? Would he have gone to the expense and effort if he didn't believe it? And suffer constant ridicule, jokes, and his own kin calling him crazy? Indeed, if he did all that but didn't believe it would happen, he would've been crazy.
.
If you read the text closely, you will see that it was God who shut Noah in!....
.
Noah was too old, and the ark door too massive, for Noah to shut it himself. (wink)
.
what could this mean if Noah was the only one uncorrupted in his time...???... any thoughts?
.
If Noah was the 'only' one, why did God save Noah's family members? Righteous by association? We find out later that Noah and family weren't all that perfect. Many rabbis don't think Noah was 'perfect' or 'righteous', but that he was simply a lot better behaved than the other men by comparison. See my post 879.

It was not a question of being 'perfect' in terms of morals and such.. ohh no. It is much more than that.. The bible is clear that none are righteous..
this link is a good vid to help explain what I am talking about. Matybe a new look into this subject for you. When watching this, remember Jesus' words in the NT about 'in the days of Noah'... (speaking to how the latter days will be.. )

In response to Arcane? posted by pink101:

Arcane...and Pink's return to his feelings he thinks I am even though he thinks I mightn't be. But Jeff MUST have hidden meanings:

Arcane: "mysterious, secret, obscure" in MY post but not in the Bible's teachings re the Flood?????????????????????????????

You wanted my take on the Great Flood story because of my comment of a possible higher message than saving the lives of bunny rabbits etc. I keep asking what any higher meaning could be!

Is what you're saying that I should have specifically mentioned Pakistan? But that's part of YOUR story, not mine. ABC happy

I dont' interchange Bible with God and I simply gave my take on a few verses...not my belief. BTW: I used a very old Bible that made no reference to "3:30PM". I was being irreverent on the precision within these verses but I calculated the 7th and 20th day of the second month....to be 7 and 20 February, equally what had to be New Years Day. I referenced BBQ etc to take us to the end of Chapter 8 and Migisi returned to these verses.

I don't have any hidden meaning of the bible to give you.

The bible is clear that none are righteous..
.
I've heard that.
.
But, what about our Declaration of Independence which states that "all are endowed with certain inalienable rights...". So, we have what is known as the "Righteous American".
.
So, Wendell, does the Bible trump the United States Declaration of Independence as well as the U.S. Constitution with its Bill of Rights?
.
Or, are you using righteous in the sense that it means a person of piety?
.

"Hebrew Definition of Righteousness

Righteousness:

The Hebrew word for righteousness is tseh'-dek, tzedek, Gesenius's Strong's Concordance:6664-righteous, integrity, equity, justice, straightness. The root of tseh'-dek is tsaw-dak', Gesenius's Strong:6663-upright, just, straight, innocent, true, sincere. It is best understood as the product of upright, moral action in accordance with some form of divine plan. "

» redback - Pink's progress

In response to Pink's progress posted by Migisi:

I'm hoping you understand my post better than Pink has stated he has...altho what that sly old fox claims and incites and really believes deep down...seems arcane to me. happy happy

I intended the example of the 'simple poor family' to be used as relevant to contemporary times, but you know, there's no Bible reference to it. happy Similarly, there's no Bible reference to the 2 unicorns who turned up too late, thinking embarkation was to be in alpha order (a cartoon in today's paper)

"I ponder how much truth is within the legend..." is also my 'take' on it, simply re-phrased.

Re your other questions on what's unravelling and my need to go beyond, Migisi, they go to my overall take on things Biblical (or things Godly) and hard to condense down here. I'm not sure I can condense them sufficiently or efficiently...to allow any exchange on it to be finalised within 72 hours or so.

I'll try a separate post in Jeffs Approach.
