» pink101 - Arcane?

In response to Pink's progress posted by redback:

.
Sometimes, when I read some of your posts, I have to read them over and over; because it seems to me I must be missing something--some hidden meaning.
.
I think it might be the difference in our lingo that makes me think you're being arcane. I don't think you are.
.
But, it looks to me like you're saying there is something fishy about this story of the ark and Noah as well as god's way of dealing with things.
.
We live in transparent times. Fifty years ago, we wouldn't have noticed the man behind the curtain in the Emerald City. At least, most of us wouldn't have noticed him. Now, that we have instant messages from around the world, there's little held back. We know--Now!--what is going on in Pakistan. We see it on the tube and it is live.
.
Is that what you're saying?
.

Being like Jesus means staying poor and hungry?

I qualified my statement with 'may mean.' God is most interested in the heart, not the pocketbook.

.
Indeed, what would God need with money.
"Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God, also the earth with all that is in it." (Deut 10:14)
.
Matthew 6:32 - "For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
.
Do you believe that if one puts all their faith in Jesus, Jesus will provide 'all these things' (the same material things 'the pagans run after') to them?
.
If so, does poverty indicate a person of little or no faith? That wealth indicates that people have been gifted (rewarded) by God for their faith in Jesus?

No, I don't. There are plenty of examples in the New Testament where a Christian is beaten, battered, and he loses everything in this world. Remember Stephen?

I think that if a person believes that Christ gave (Atonement) everything for us individually, and we choose to follow Christ, then there is a least some sort of Vegas odds reality that we might dedicate our life to others. It also seems possible that some dedicate their lives to others without any help from God. But it is the exception not the rule in my experience.

Your answers do not address or relate to material poverty or wealth - which was the focus of my questions. Try again.

I'm sorry. I thought my answer was pretty good. I am going to go shop for Christmas now, and think of other things, rather than your questions. I'm not for any kind of prosperity gospel. Go ahead and attempt to say something through the eyes and life of Jesus. I'm all ears.

And just before they drowned, a simple poor family who couldn't bribe anyone for a berth on the Ark, were heard to cry: "Life's not fair" but no-one recalled God making such a promise nor heard their cries.
.
IMO, a good tie-in to our side discussion here on money. Yes, I've heard believers imply (if not outright proclaim) there are no guarantees of fairness from God in this life. And to me, it does appear that God's deafness has not improved much since Flood times.
.
My take is just how much myth is within the legend here, is lost to antiquity.
.
I ponder how much truth is within the legend - which could also be lost to antiquity. It's said that every legend has a degree of truth in it. In this legend, I do believe it's true that a flood happened. But was it divinely caused?
.
And it unravels some of the Bible's message for me.
.
What would that 'message' be? And now that it's unraveled, how has the message changed for you?
.
I have to go beyond populist interpretations of OT/NT or Book by Book of the Bible.
.
And going beyond leads you to....?

My questions directly related to Bo's comment 'though they ~deserve~ nothing'.

Happy hunting in the mall, Jones. But I don't know why you bother. Being a believer, Jesus will provide those gifts for you.
