In response to Remembering Post 129 posted by Brother_Jones:
Technically, I guess you are right, since I spend my days checking up on you.
.
Sure you do. (wink) Technically, if I'm here, I'm not elsewhere.
.
... any thread that deals with Christianity here at the Suite is going to get your attention.
.
And your attention too, right?
.
Maybe you are referring to ... ?
.
Oli a born-again? Hee hee. I don't recall Oli ever being deleted by management. But there is one who's been twice and thrice pardoned.
.
It just seems like typical labeling from you.
.
It's their 'label' which they've proudly affixed to themselves.
.
You probably should label that your opinion about any and every story in the bible that contains a supernatural element.
.
Probably. But I might surprise you, so stay tuned.
.
As to the Flood:... We do have some choices.
.
Brian would likely ask which one was the most 'plausible'.
.
No, what irks me the most is that most of the time you refuse to be helpful and work with others.
.
Depends on the 'others', and what 'help' they ask of me.
.
I asked you back a few posts if you would consider co-teaching by chapter. But you ignored me.
.
You were serious? I took it as sarcasm. Aren't all of us who are participating in this thread 'co-teaching'?
.
I suppose you stay angry most of the time.
.
Angry? Nah. That's too exhausting.

I forgot... any 'clean' creature that dies becomes 'unclean'. It only remains 'clean' if it's killed and prepared according to Kashrut. (Note: never offer Lasagna to a practicing Jew. It's not kosher to mix meat and milk products.)

» Migisi - Middle East Animals

.
So, what animals and birds inhabit the Middle East region, which Noah might've had on his ark?
.
- Babboons (unclean) - inhabit rocky, open lands and wooded areas of Africa and Arabia.
- Fennecs (unclean) - a small desert dog resembling a fox, found in northern Africa.
- Dorcas gazelle (clean) - the most common antelope to northern Africa and much of the Arabian peninsula. (Wasn't there a woman named Dorcas in the Book of Acts?)
- Rock Hyrax (unclean) - a small, rabbit-sized animal found in the Middle East and African sub-Sahara.
- Simien Jackal (unclean) - another small wild dog found in central Ethiopia.
- Jerboas (unclean) - a jumping rodent found mostly in the arid regions of Africa. They can cover up to 10 feet in a single leap.
- Leopards (unclean) - a wide ranging wild cat
- Ichneumons (unclean) - a common Egyptian species of mongoose. Ancient Egyptians worshiped the mongoose, associating it with Mafdet, a goddess known as a destroyer of snakes and scorpions.
- Persian wild ass (unclean) - member of the horse family.
- Oryx (clean) - name for three species of horned antelopes that live in Africa and the Middle East.
- Eurasian porcupines (unclean) - same as ours.
- Asp, or Egyptian cobra (unclean) - snake (viper) worshiped in ancient Egypt and was used as the symbol on the crown of the pharaohs.
- Nile crocodile (unclean) - was revered by ancient Egyptian sects, and mummies of crocodiles have been discovered in Egyptian tombs.
- Monitor Lizard (unclean) - or goannas, of Africa, specifically mentioned in Leviticus.
- Little Bustard (clean) - a chicken/grouse-like bird found on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
- Hoopoe (unclean) - a long-billed insect-eating bird mentioned specifically in Leviticus.
- Hoopoe Skylark (clean) - is a sand grouse. It winters in North Africa.
- Partridge (clean) - a bird of the pheasant family, native to North Africa and the Middle East.
- Raven (unclean) - the 'brown-necked raven' inhabits North Africa east to the Middle East, mentioned in the Flood story.
- Slit-faced Bat (unclean) - inhabit parts of Africa and the Middle East, frequently found in caves. Mentioned in Leviticus with birds.

» Brother_Jones - Think About Baseball

In response to Think About Baseball posted by pink101:

Okay, Pinky, let me make some statements about your post and a few thoughts.

You represent the team in how you play the game. And, depending on which role you happen to be playing and on where the ball is at any one time, you are judged not only by your team mates; but, by many others including yourself as well as the onlookers in the bleachers or in front of their t-v screens if you might be in the majors.

You seem to think that Christians who go to church are highly organized into group think and action. Maybe that might be true for a few men and women who staff the church, but most Christians are simply oriented around their families. Church can make a difference but nothing like the family unit.

It is exactly the same way about your position as an Evangelical. You have a role to carry out. And, there are rules of operation that you follow.

This seems to be the constant flag that you keep waiving. All us Christians follow all those rules by those in authority over us. It isn't reality. Maybe you are speaking of the type of traditional churches that are dying in your area of the country. Churches that dominate their folks and have little dictators in charge aren't growing and they aren't popular. There is just too much education out there and too many people looking these days for people to feel trapped into thinking they have few choices.

When you take a position, you are under the control of the team you represent. Of course, you represent yourself; but, the team manager is the one that decides if you're doing the job according to its standards.

I think that is the biggest misunderstanding you have had since you began posting here. You seem to believe that most Christians who post here are under the thumb of others. And that we are just playing out our lives in bondage to some preacher or pastor. You can't seem to understand that the Lord has countless people out there who read His word, pray everyday, and love Him, just because of who He is.

the oldtimer.

» redback - Some Questions About Your Posts

In response to Some Questions About Your Posts posted by Brother_Jones:

"I basically am trying my best, even though I do not hold to these positions, to be representing those folk who believe:
(1) The bible is not a reliable source of information about God.
(2) Jesus is not a reliable source of information about God."

And I respect all here trying to understand or even identify the alternative viewpoint. But every so often, even an an unskilled outsider thinks tis an either/or.

I don't believe so far, the Biblical Great Flood is a stand alone historical fact. Judge Judy once told me that if something doesn't make sense, it's probably not true. So, on that test, I know there are many untruths. ABC happy

The alternative view would be a miracle-laden one but unless it meets the pre-requisite 'detailed in the Bible' tis all conjecture. Therefore, where I place it (3C) is as good a guess as anyone's?

Then you guys talk about sharing via odds and evens like we had here with petrol restrictions. happy Kinda reminds me of a comparison between Christianity and SU DOKU. I'm trying to pick up skills in both.

So doku: Depending on the numbers given to you as absolute fact and which ARE absolute fact (in the spaces allocated), filling in all the rest is...absolute logic. And there can only ever be any combination of nine(9) numbers.

PS: Brother! Re your:

"This seems to be the constant flag that you keep waiving."

Nope, even I understand Pink on that. Tis a constant flag he waves. happy

» redback - Middle East Animals

In response to Middle East Animals posted by Migisi:

Your unclean and clean animal summary is truly, objectively fascinating. Is there wiggle room (any snake pun intended) as to the range of animals that existed pre-flood. Suppose Adam got himself the first pet and called it...Fred...as he was allowed to do. Could all animal sub species be traced back to one? And that one was allowed to board the Ark with up to 6 mates. Fleas and ticks et al, thus illness, would get a free ride.

Was canine, bovine, feline, Jeffine...the mix..so that would reduce numbers. Or am I simply being asinine (the symbol of a humble peasant) in attempts to be irreverent?
