Nope, it's not made out of any part of sugar. It's an 'artificial' sweetener.

Things that FEEL good, TASTE good, SMELL good, SOUND good, and LOOK good? They are ALL bad for you.

Ain't it the truth!! But let's do it anyway!!! happy

Did I miss the segue??? 4th of July and sacharine sweetness? Loads of fatty hot dogs washed down by diet coke??

"Diabetes Australia has read the medical literature on aspartame and consulted with the head toxicologist at the Australia and New Zealand Food Authority. Overall, there does not appear to be any scientific basis for the claims that aspartame is detrimental to health. Surveys of the Australian population indicate that even the biggest users of the alternative sweetener are well within the limit of what is generally regarded as safe.

Diabetes Australia recommends that if people with diabetes use alternative sweeteners they should use a variety of different types to minimise exposure to any particular chemical."

I refer to my Equal tablets as the cocaine fix I add to my caffeine fix. By now, my body is so riddled with multiple organisms, only a post moterm will provide a truth-in-waiting. happy

Pink states the diabetic mantra:
"Things that FEEL good, TASTE good, SMELL good, SOUND good, and LOOK good? They are ALL bad for you"

And the longer we live, the more at risk we are! happy

If those things were good for you, you might get through life without being a sinner.

No dogs or diet coke at our parties. It's our chance to shine with our homemade cooking. But I'm sure we're definitely not the norm.
.
Diabetes Australia....Overall, there does not appear to be any scientific basis for the claims that aspartame is detrimental to health.
.
The American Diabetes Assoc. supports the artificial sweetener manufacturers too. Their publications are full of expensive ads for chemical sugar substitutes - paid for by the manufacturers. Meet their advertisers (drug companies) here: http://diabetesforecast.hotims.com/r5/se...
.
I thought this interesting from the American Diabetes Assoc. site:
Response to single dose of aspartame or saccharin by NIDDM patients http://care.diabetesjournals.org/cgi/con...
.
[published in 1988 - when there was still heated controversy about its safety]
.
(quote) "Twelve normal subjects and 10 subjects with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus were given, in random order at intervals of greater than or equal to 1 wk, three drinks of the same beverage: one unsweetened, one sweetened with 400 mg aspartame, and one sweetened with 135 mg saccharin. The amount of sweetener approximated that in 1 L of sugar-free soft drink.
...
"Analysis of area under the curve showed that mean insulin levels were statistically significantly higher after aspartame than after saccharin or unsweetened beverage in normal [non-diabetic] subjects only..." (end quote)
.
While aspartame may not impact a diabetic's insulin levels, there are other serious side effects documented with its use. Trade one malady for another (or several)? However, apparently (from the above) just ONE L of diet drink with aspartame DOES significantly impact a normal person's insulin level. So, a normal person should be made aware that ingestion of any aspartame products before insulin tests will significantly effect results. Some clinically normal people may be diagnosed 'borderline' diabetic when they actually aren't. They are then advised to avoid sugar and substitute with the very product that skewed their test results. This is exactly what happened to my husband. His levels returned to normal after he stopped consuming aspartame, with no other changes to his lifestyle. Interesting, no?
.
I refer to my Equal tablets as the cocaine fix I add to my caffeine fix.
.
My natural sugar (in chocolate form especially) is my fix. And I do love my coffee too.
.
... only a post moterm will provide a truth-in-waiting. happy
.
After we're dead, would we care what they find inside us? Only if there's a possibility of my physical resurrection. happy
.
And the longer we live, the more at risk we are!
.
True! As we get up in age, the blood-brain barrier becomes pourous, so all the contaminants in our blood stream go directly into our brain and damage it. The same physical insults our bodies could tolerate at age 20 will often cripple us at age 60.
.
Eh, but we all gotta go sometime and from something ... so why not enjoy life until then!

You don't seem to get the point that sugar--itself--is an addictive substance that is NOT good for your health.

"...Trade one malady for another (or several)?" Methinks tis a little truism. While I like to think I am greater than the sum total of my disabilities, I sometimes think I am not greater than the sum total of my compromises and side effects.

As they say.."to err is human but to aarrgghh is pirate." happy
