» Brother_Jones - Buddhism vs Christianity

In response to Buddhism vs Christianity posted by Migisi:

I was always fascinated by Christian math: 1(Father)+1(Son)+1(Ghost) = 1(God)

I was trying to lean into the discussion by not harshly posting that I rule out in my own mind the possibility anyone can be a Buddhist Christian or Christian Buddhist, if they take seriously the claims of Christ or Buddha.

i am just an oldtimer for the Lord.

You probably did better than I did just in case anyone thought I was promoting the author's views.
.
But, I did provide the link. It seemed pertinent to the thread.

In response to Sorta Lost Interest posted by pink101:

no, Phil.. I did... allow me to repeat it...

the Doctrine of Christ.... (can be found in 2John)

7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, F2 but that we receive a full reward. 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

I think, what I enjoy about Brother Jones and that which is completely lacking in you, Wendell, is his display of intellectual skill.
.
The link I provided is the one Brother Jones has connoted.
.
But, you will just continue with your obtrusive ways, I am sure.

I did not say there were secular sources that dealt with Jesus' life and miracles.
.
Disappointing.sad One would think a celebrity like Jesus, who drew such large crowds and performed great wonders, would've deserved at least a dot and tittle by secular historians. A man who cured the incurable, exorcized demons, controlled nature, had power over death, and possessed supernatural knowledge would've been noticed by everybody, dontcha think?

I wonder if your response, here, qualifies as the cynicism with which Brian accuses you?
.
Your questions seem perfectly natural to me.
.
Suppose someone was able to turn water into wine, walk on water, heal blindness with their spit and some dirt, or perform any of a number of supernatural actions today. Would the media be the least bit interested?

I lean in your direction, Jones. (Surprise!) How about a Christian Jew? Can an orthodox Jew believe in a triune god? In Jesus as a man-god?
.
I've been hearing about the Texas flooding on the news. Keep your powder dry, Jones.

Imagine it. Compared to the celebrities the media fawns over today (Anna Nicole Smith, Paris Hilton, presidential candidates... yawn and snore), a miracle-worker like Jesus would be pursued by every photographer, reporter, and talk show host in the world. He'd be meeting with the Pope, world heads of state, and every mega-church preacher. BUT - if Jesus appeared today and performed wonders, wouldn't he be labeled the anti-christ (according to Revelations)? Evenso, the secular media would be all over him.
.
If the Emperors or governors back then had heard of Jesus' wonder-working, wouldn't they have wanted to meet him? Ask him to send rain or cure their gout? I know I would've been very interested in knowing him. Yet, no mention by historians. I find that odd.

Ever read Dostoyevsky's The Grand Inquisitor where it is explained what the Catholic Church in Spain might have done with him?
