One thing is for sure, we need more highly qualified doctors; so, our educational system needs some overhauling.
.
Do we really need nore doctors, or is it more a problem of all the "good" doctors wanting to practice where they can earn more money? I seem to recall reading something to that effect a while back.
.
And in an earlier posting here I talked about recruiting people into medicine by offering scholarships and low-interest loans if prospective doctors agreed to practice in areas of the country which desperately need more doctors.
.
I'm not saying the educational system couldn't use some reforms, but I don't think that's the entire problem.
.
peace and love,

Many individuals enter the medical professions for a desire to serve humanity--many if not most of them.
.
Later on, when they are faced with the reality of paying off their humungous student loans, they work for money.
.
If we provided youngsters with the proper understandings and educational opportunities we could confer medical degrees on many more than now graduates--all students from America's public and private school systems. And, we could do it at no cost to the students.
.
Doctors notoriously have such heavy patient bases they hardly get to know any of them on a personal basis. And, many people go through life never or seldom seeing a doctor for any reason. If we had more doctors, the price of care would come down. The big losers would be the companies that float the student loans and collect the interest fees. YOU know, the bankers. Cry, cry, cry.
.
Yup, we need more doctors, more nurses, and more support workers. More facilities and more and better equipment. And, at least, another tier of medical care such as could be provided by paramedical clinics strategically located in fire stations across America.
.
I imagine we're talking at least a million more workers nation wide.

You misunderstood me.
.
I was talking about the national discussion and I meant these kinds of things are promoted by private insurance companies and the pharmaceuticals that want to shut it down. Do you know how much money they put into political campaigns?

"...we need to hear as much as we can about what is wrong with the systems in other countries...."
Or for a radically different approach, what makes them work better. Crikey, if I migrated to the USA, could my posts here work any better?

In response to A National Discussion posted by pink101:"...It looks like we DO have a national discussion going on health care'......"How many political parties do you have in the Land of Oz?"
An interesting segue from 'health care'.
There is a same-o same-o to politics in health care probably world-wide. How many of the finite dollars ie our tax money ought to be returned to the taxpayer that will ultimately lead to more "bandages on bums", not more unactioned health reports on shelves.
A political party is like a church. It is not a building...it's a whole bunch of people who let things happen. Same with shareholders of unethical, wealthy corporations. Churches here are registered corporations with "shareholders".
I'm sure a lot of things happened between the time George Mason and George Bush roamed the Earth or whatever our equivalent is here. Probably a convict and it's modern day contemporary, John Howard, PM. ![]()
But my health care is far too important to leave to doctors, let alone politicians. A national health care program comes with national expectations. My own expectations are realistic, informed...and jaded. ![]()
Bob Hawke, a former Labour Prime Minister once famously said: "By 1990, no Australian child will be living in poverty" In 2007, John Howard, our current Liberal Prime Minister is going to stop child sexual abuse (a "national emergency") in the Aboriginal communities by compulsory medical checkups, welfare restrictions..no porno nor grog there for 6 months...and army involvement." The ink's not yet dry...the proof of the pudding is truth-in-waiting. Bob was unsuccessful. Little Johnny and his profound hope can only be let down by the real culprits...all of us who fail his dreams.
Our Prime Minister pool to date has only come from the Liberal & Labour Parties but we have many people of many political persuasions holding Parties at taxpayers' expense...if you follow my drift.
There was a law passed last year that deregistered many political parties that had not been successful in getting any of it members elected so will parties reduce or be more concentrated?
So, to answer the question, there's probably 4 or 5 important political parties here where 'importance' is in the eye of the beholder.

How much problem should we have with 'shock jock' techniques like Moore's...if it brings fair dinkum imperative to the national debate? I expect I'll watch it when it screens downunder.
