I know, but tell me what *you* think about what I quoted. How does it fit/not fit with your view?

I have to take the view that--as a society--we must allow all issues to be put on the table for open discussion.
.
It's a tough call; but, I doubt that "goodness" can be understood where we have so many different perspectives.
.
I think forums like we have here are true exercises in democracy and we need more of them--perhaps we should have official forums of the people rather than the shams that take place in D.C..
.
I just picked up a book in a used book store Saturday, Studies In Doctrine, by Alister E. McGrath; Zondervan Publishing House, copyright is 1987. Maybe I'll get some ideas from it.

"Goodness" is explained in greater detail as the ideas are developed in the article/speech.
.
If we could just "listen" as the ideas are presented--without filling in our own reservations/thoughts/questions, perhaps we wouldn't have such a hard time understanding each other.

Yeah, but this isn't *about* politics. Its about a way of being in the world which overrides being political, or philosophical or intellectual, or anything else. It is a way of being which influences all other ways of being, though.

Buddhism has but one faith--that is the faith in "goodness." It is the belief that goodness will always win in the end. It is the belief that "right" is "might." Buddhism has been called, "the pursuit of goodness." The aim of Buddhist scripture is to show its followers the way to "goodness."
.
How can anyone find fault with that? Maybe some will talk about "wars and rumors of wars" and there is "not one person who is good", etc.; but, working to promote goodness is a career we should all pursue--no matter what.

Thanks, Phil.
.
I was reminded of these passages from the Bible:
.
Set your mind on God's kingdom [which is Goodness] and his justice [or freedom or righteousness] before everything else, and all the rest will come to you as well. (Mt 6:33)
.
A Buddhist might take this to mean: "focus on goodness in everything say or do or think, and everything else will also follow goodness."
.
The light [goodness] shines on in the dark, and the dark has never mastered it. (Jn 1:5)

One of my favorite verses. It's a scientific fact.
.
The only reason light can be seen in the dark is that something in its way reflects it.

Yes, and here's another inspiring fact:

The gentlest stream of water, even just a subtle dripping of small amounts, will eventually wear away stone. It doesn't take force, just persistence.

» Migisi - A good morning

.
"Let no man think lightly of good, saying in his heart, It will not benefit me. Even by the falling of waterdrops a water-pot is filled; the wise man becomes full of good, even if he gather it little by little." - Gautama Buddha
.
"Goodness consists not in the outward things we do, but in the inward thing we are. To be is the great thing." - Edwin Hubbell Chapin
.
"Good-nature is that benevolent and amiable temper of mind which disposes us to feel the misfortunes and enjoy the happiness of others, and, consequently, pushes us on to promote the latter and prevent the former; and that without any abstract contemplation on the beauty of virtue, and without the allurements or terrors of religion." - Henry Fielding
.
And here, the cautionary quote from Cervantes (Don Quixote):
"Make yourself honey and the flies will devour you."
