» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Religious slant

In response to Religious slant posted by Migisi:

True enough about Moore, BUT even I - with my dislike of Moore - am NOT dismissing the possibility that SOME of his content will be valuable and correct. I do plan on seeing "Sicko," Migisi. And I'm not going to critique it until AFTER I've seen it.

What bothers me about this exchange, Migisi, is that you are dismissing these filmmakers before you've even seen their product.

If everyone on YOUR side of the fence feels the way you do (and your posting the information the way you did shows that you're trying to influence people in your direction), then we have no hope of emerging from such a POLARIZED society.

It's truly a Culture War then, with no hope of either side listening to the other. At least I am willing to make SOME effort to bridge the gap.

You make a lot of generalizations that are not always true. There are honorable men and women in politics who DO try to effectively represent their constituents (not just the lobbyists and money people). **And, btw, not all the honorable people are on the Left.

Yeah, I am. Kinda like dismissing Ken Ham's Creation museum before I've visited it (which I don't plan to).

Hee hee. We're talking about a documentary airing on PBS here, Brian. The film, and our opinions about it and its producers, are not going to bring world peace or meld society into one big happy family.

A 'war'? Over a Christian-slanted docu-film on American history? I think not.

Name me ONE honorable politician (left or right) whom you KNOW is pure of heart, and doesn't suck up to money people. What ARE those fund-raising dinners for, if not to meet and make money. You really don't think big corporations give big contributions without expecting big favors in return, do you?

In response to Religious slant posted by Migisi:

If I understand the film correctly, it's about the debate over the relationship between church and state in America's history. That is a key issue in the "Culture Debate" going on today in our country. I think it is in EVERYONE's best interest to listen to ALL sides and ALL perspectives (as are out there in civil circles) in this important discussion. Otherwise, then we're just choosing up sides - and only listening to those we agree with. Such a tunnel vision prejudice WILL lead to a cultural war - and given the red-blue division in America right now, that's the direction we seem to be headed.

If your standard is a politician that doesn't raise money, well then the answer is NONE. But that is a RIDICULOUS standard on your part. It is not immoral to raise money, nor is it immoral to MAKE money.

I think the way our politicians are raising money to finance their campaigns is immoral.

"But somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together," Mr. Obama said. "Faith started being used to drive us apart. Faith got hijacked."

"He attributed this partly to "the so-called leaders of the Christian right, who've been all too eager to exploit what divides us." Yet he said that in traveling around the country he had sensed an "awakening" of an interfaith movement of "progressives."

Much truth in the cliche: 'the best politician money can buy'. Need a bridge in Alaska - where there are no roads or towns? Pay the Senator, and he'll guarantee that it's government funded and your company gets the work.
.
A year ago, the Senate allocated $90 million to the Democratic and to the Republican parties --- for their political conventions - huge rally parties paid for by our taxes. Did anyone ask you if you'd like to contribute to either party? I wasn't asked.
