» pink101 - Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky

.
I think that--if we are to discuss the reality of Jesus--it is worthwhile to bring in Dostoevsky's ideas.
.
Reading The Grand Inquisitor which is a part of Dostoevsky's book, The Brothers Karamozov, we can get a good idea of how this brilliant man saw Jesus.
.
I've been listening to a lecture on The Grand Inquisitor in which the speaker opens up some understanding of how Russians during the time of Dostoevsky thought about things divine.
.
In The Grand Inquisitor, Jesus has returned to Earth for a brief visit and is being held in a prison dungeon by the head Inquisitor of the Catholic Church in Spain. The Cardinal accuses Jesus of making a mistake and it is through this mechanism that Dostoyevsky is able to explain his idea of what Jesus did for humanity--that is, the Gospel. And, he is able to show how Religionism has hijacked and subverted the teachings of Jesus to suit their priestly purposes.
.
Are any readers familiar with the story as Dostoyevsky tells it?

» HeadZenCards - The Value of Jesus

In response to Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky posted by pink101:

More important than the reality of Jesus is the value of Jesus.

Is there any value in believing in one who will not acknowledge you and send you to hell if you do not "do his father's will"?

You should try it.

You're welcome.

When your Jesus forgave you, did he do it for his benefit or for your benefit?

I used to believe that this planet was for God Training so we all could go out into the universe and be Gods on our own planets. Now I believe that we're already here.

When I forgive my creations, I try to remember that I created them. This tends to defeat anger, thus rendering the forgiveness game into a polite exercise that became moot upon my creating them.

I don't know about being forgiven by Jesus.
.
More to the point, I think what Jesus did was to point out that the priesthood had created a system that condemns everyone except the priest;y classes. And, they're still at it.
.
My point is that you seem stuck in an area where you are unable to forgive those people who have misunderstood what Jesus taught.
.
Maybe it would be good if you would let up a little and let them explain their ideas.
.
If, after they give their expplanations they are still wrong, then it seems you would have a point to nail them.
.
Until then, maybe you should let up a bit?
.
Maybe not?

The reality of Jesus is He the exactly as The Bible tells us:
.
Do you believe everything that's written in the Bible? All of it?
.
...The Son of God...
.
Wasn't Adam the son of God too? Made in God's image and likeness. Being a child of God yourself through Adam's line, are you not also a son of God? Or would you be God's great, great, great, (to the power of ?) grandson?
.
...the one who will save us from sin,...
.
'Will save', or has saved already? So, if Jesus has already paid for your sins past, present, and future - you don't have to pay for them yourself. You've got your ticket to Heaven no matter what you do. Or, does Jesus' free gift of salvation come with strings attached?
.
...the one who is risen.
.
In the Bible, there were more than 'one' who rose from the dead, and raised people from the dead. Are they all divine beings because they rose, or raised others? Elijah raised a dead boy, Elisha raised a dead boy, Paul brought a boy back to life, Peter raised Tabitha, a corpse touched Elisha's bones and came back to life, many dead people rose from their tombs when Jesus died, Jesus raised Lazarus. And Jesus wasn't the only man to appear to others after his death. Moses and Elijah appeared and talked to Jesus. Peter, James, and John his brother saw them.

Rev 2:23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
.
Now, don't be too upset with me. I am an abrasive old cuss sometimes. If you need an apology, I can give one. But, I figure you can take as well as you give and don't need any molly coddling.
