» Brother_Jones - Back to the pattern

In response to Back to the pattern posted by pink101:

Where do YOU get the idea that there is some inborn pattern we should see?
.
That seems like such a major assumption to me. Where does such an idea originate in your mind? Are you able to account for it or do you just assume it based on some myth that is handed down that you accept as part of some overall ideology?

The pattern in my mind is based on giving quite a bit of attention to those I hold in authority and those that I trust. Some ideas are just better than others. Even Paper Turtle who seems to be as sweet as the early morning sun would probably admit if pressed that the love of God comes tumbling down to us in recognizable stories of trusted men/women. It matters not whether you want to discount them by naming them myths. They are stories of what we believe to be the best of us. And if you change horses and begin to call the ostentatious, learned atheist brethren your best friend, then you must try to defend the idea or 'pattern' that any living thing is really made or designed for chaos and not splendor.

Is there another choice?

There you go again, Brother Jones. I still don't understand your useage of the word, pattern. It's as though you think I should understand it just because you use the word. I don't get it. Why don't you explain yourself instead of going off like a sky rocket?

I still don't understand your useage of the word, pattern.

The bible uses the greek word, tupos, interchangeably to mean pattern, example, or form.*

Rom 6:17

But thanks be to God that though you were slaves to sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed. And having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

Mercy sakes, Uncle Pinky. There is a whole lot in that verse.

Your smart alecky ways don't go far with me. Maybe some are impressed.
.
Here you write, "...that form of teaching..."; but, your point had something to do with a pattern with which one was born. Here you're talking about a pattern that has been taught.
.
Two different concepts.
.
Are you able to give voice to your deepest beliefs here, or will you continue to avoid the issue?
.
It's not a problem for me. You can just bow out if that suits you.

» Brother_Jones - Pattern

In response to There You Go Again, Brother Jones posted by pink101:
Okay, I'll go one more post and then we will just have to figure that my original post is undefinable by me. The 'pattern ' could be described like a basic color. How could you know the color orange unless you experienced it? In the same way, humans experience a form or pattern of fitting into each other and to God. You would have to be raised by wolves to qualify for not experiencing some form of belonging to the next world and to the family of man. I believe the closest that we see this idea illustrated is in Rom 2:14 which is the passage that Paul teaches that Gentiles 'do intinctively the things of the Law, are a law to themselves.' I don't think he is just talking about obeying the law. He states in the next verse that 'in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their concience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them.' So is it a combination of experience and something set into our hearts by a Creator? It may be a little or a lot of both.

Sorry if I am scurrying around on this. I am getting over a bad stomach virus and I am not up to speed.

» EvilChihuahua - Pretty sad

In response to Just heard posted by Migisi:

I think it's pretty sad how, as it was pointed out in the blog here, people are ranting about him only days after his death. Reminds me of the morons like Germaine Greer and PETA bitching about Steve Irwin within hours of his death, former Brisbane Lord Mayor Jim Soorley ranting about Pope John Paul II and former Queensland Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen in the newspapers the weekend after then passed on and Derryn Hinch claiming the late Graham Kennedy (the King of Aussie TV) died of AIDs within days of his death.

Can't anyone wait a while before the voice their opinions on the deceased rather than attack them while their family and loved ones are still grieving? It's just...wrong.

'..do intinctively...

NIV and KJV read "do by NATURE". Your words "..do INSTINCTIVELY.." are an accurate interpretation of 'natural law', IMO, i.e. instinctive and natural patterns of behavior for each species.

» Migisi - Brian's article "Hating Jerry Falwell"

.
"The real reason the Left (including people like Christopher Hitchens) hates Falwell isn't that he made some outrageous statements. Those are just fuel for the fire. No, the real reason is that Jerry Falwell represented something that is absolutely 100^ contrary to the very premise of modern, secular progressivism.
.
That's horse pucky, Brian. You add fuel to the fire here.

» pink101 - Instinct

In response to Pattern posted by Migisi:
.
I get your point.
.
But, I'm sure you know that instinct as a term belongs to the study of human beings and their groups and is too strong a concept for use regarding mores where it connotes the conventions that embody the fundamental values of any group no matter how large or small.
.
Human instincts are behaviors such as gasping for air when one senses they are being suffocated or in vomitting when one has been exposed to some horrifying sight--something done completelyf without thought.
.
The laws and rules that govern our relationships with each other are learned through the process of socialization and they are called mores and prounounced, moor--ayes.
