Sorry I missed this thread earlier.

Wow! Half of Americans were unable to name even one of the four gospels, or the first book of the Bible? Christians think Joan of Arc was Noah's wife? That's a hoot! Evangelicals don't fair much better in religious literacy than the average American?
.
The interviewer mentions he was reading Christopher Hitchens, and he said that even those who appear educated are 'wildly ignorant' (implying this about Hitchens). You're reading Hitchen's book, right? Do you get a sense that he's ignorant?

"Wow! Half of Americans were unable to name even...."
Carrying out street polls of Americans, (editing for entertainment purposes I know) creates some scary questions about just how cluey Joe Average is. Forget about Michael Moore and Candid Camera and the cruder 'Borat'. Our "Chaser" went there and did better than Jay Leno does in his street polls. Your Obama was described as evil (confused with Osama!)forget the other "well known" names, and by declaring some of the world's iconic places incl your own Mt Rushmore, were actually in Australia only a short flight from each other, they wanted to visit to check 'em all out.
Aussie scams along the same lines need far more effort to fool the people or maybe the programs would be a disastrous PR exercise so are pulled before release??
But does this equate to religious gullibility ripe for the picking or is that matters that matter really aren't showing across US Joe Average's radar? There's always someone else that can worry about that?
Who was it reckons we're all the same? Aaawwhhh!!!

Sorry, haven't seen the movie so the connection to the question passes me by. I'm not persuaded the Chaser's helping the 'obfuscation' you refer to as I don't think 'The Chasers War On Everything' is available in the USA. But the street polling methodology you're highlighting sure doesn't paint the USA's intelligence base in a great light.
Isn't it as simple as you guys needing to have a laugh at yourselves? We find it a healthy thing to do with whatever consequences.
