.
Brian wrote a pretty nice article. He mentions that women who can't or have chosen not to be moms might not appreciate Mother's Day being shoved in their face. I have many women friends who have never had children, for a variety of reasons. I wish them a 'Happy Women's Day' instead. And 'Happy Men's Day' for the nonfathers on Father's Day. Why not?!
.
For all who ~are~ moms (and grandmoms), Happy Mother's Day this Sunday. I miss mine still, after all these years.

And to all those who feel guilt because their Moms were deplorable people: You're in this world now. It's OK to be torn and say "thanks for the birth, Mom" and ignore this holiday.

If you are religious, look into how Jesus "honored" HIS mother.

I read today that Mothers Day was "invented" by an American in 1870 so is probably one of the nicer traditions the USA exported to OZ. You know...ignore mum for 364 days of the year and buy her an electric drill on her day! happy

Julia Ward Howe's poem doubled as a petition...still timely today:
http://www.peace.ca/mothersdayproclamati...

I was out and about on this sunny Mothers' Day and invariably found myself in the crowd. As equally inevitably, much of the crowd were walking in the opposite direction talking up the entire footpath. But as tired and weary as I was, I helped a lost looking mother and child heavily laden with cases at our city's busiest railway station. Buses replaced trains to her destination so I carried luggage and escorted her to the correct bus stop AND onto the right bus. Memumdbeproud! happy

Tee hee. My son told you what he bought me, ay? It's gotta be a drill - or a new circular saw... something he can 'borrow' from me tomorrow. You boys are precious. happy

YEP...I've lived through a few mothers' daze in my time. ABC Me own poor mum? I was going to spoil her rotten after she finally decided to retire from being an overworked underpaid cleaner for several rich people. I got her Age Pension claim in but she died before the first appointment another lifetime ago. (Actually died before she finished wrapping all the Xmas presents) Went in to advise of her death etc: "So, you want to cancel the appointment then?" Twas MANY years before I found out she (estate) should have been entitled to a few pension cheques worth.

Too little too late for my mum. And I think there's a lesson in that for all of us. happy happy
