[Fromm was an inmate in the Nazi Concentration Camps, right?
.
I don't recall that, and a quick check of the dust jacket blurbs of his books mentioned it. Bruno Bettleheim was in Dachau, and The Informed Heart is based on his experiences there.

Yes. I understand what you're saying. I know my history (that was one of my three minors, remember).
.
BUT
.
my world view is a bit different than yours. I'm interested in what I, as an individual, can do to affect positive change (and, hopefully, inspire others to do the same). Just talking about what is happening does not, **for me,** open the door to individual opportunity for action.
.
Think of it this way: one of the most powerful forms of advertising is word of mouth. New ideas get spread because people spread them, sometimes one person at a time. Politicians use word of mouth. So do impoverished entrepeneurs who need business.
.
You have an idea about what is wrong. You spread that idea, gradually, through communicating it to others. I have ideas about how I as an individual need to act if I want to counter what is happening. The two idea sets, and methods of responding, are complementary, not competing.

When Bush speaks, a billion people hear his words.

When I speak, only a few hear me.

Add it up.

Yes, but those who hear you tell others, who tell others and so on. Like I said--word of mouth is powerful.
.
You're right, people don't know history, and those who do not learn the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat them.
.
But, not everyone finds history interesting. How do you propose to reach those who say, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn"? Just telling them its important isn't going to open their ears.

I don't know where your last response came from. I have a sense you're not really "hearing" me.
