My maternal grandmother, the one I frequently mention, was a "folk doctor," who healed with herbs. She had a special gift for knowing which herbs would work. But more than that, when someone would come to get her, having driven several miles in a horse-drawn buggy, she knew what the patient needed, and how crucial it was to hurry, and whether or not the patient was still alive. She just knew. She wasn't 100% right, but often enough to trust what her intuition told her.

I've known a lot of people with psychic ability of one kind or another. They know something beyond what "ordinary" people know.
.
I think dismissing something unexplainable as magic limits our ability to see outside the box.

As a post-modernist, don't you believe we create our own reality? Well, we create our reality based on what we perceive--but we only see what we *expect* to see. It has to fit in with our preconceived notions of what is right, reasonable, whatever. so if we encounter something mysterious and say its chicanery, or say there has to be a *purely* retional explanation, then we have blinded ourselves to seeing it as it is--something we don't understand.

peace and love,
