I try to be careful not to read things into what others post that they don't intend. That's why I have so much trouble with the arcane.

I'm outside my comfort zone on Christianity and am happy to stay out of that zone until matters that matter make more sense. Who knows where I would be placed IF all the WHAT IFs occurred.

The Zone seems a lot more complicated to me than just leaving or coming. The world tries to make two camps of Christian and Non. But there is a lot of overlap, especially those who cease to be like Christ and then remain in their pulpits. And a bunch of folk don't accept much Christian doctrine but are strongly attracted to the person of Jesus. And they belong to Christ without even knowing it, imo.

In response to Makes No Difference posted by pink101:

I live a life of bitter defeat because I know that what you and Brother Jones call "God" is not there?

Pinky, the bitter defeat comes when you waste your time investing your attention on unreal things like Jesus and the LORD GOD.

Look at what ideas about God have done to start wars and inflame the unstable.

When you invest your attention in real live human beings, you have a better shot at coming closer to the "discovery" you seek.

I would say that some Christians try to make two camps of society--the good, poor, and meekly spirited, wouldn't-hurt-a-fly Christians and the evil and mean spirited others who outrageously oppose them and their rights.
.
And, that's a crock.
.
In my book.

Well, I'm trying to get it back on your turf again today so that you can talk about evil Christian culture and leave behind the atheist culture of sweetness and good that I meant for yesterday. Yesterday is gone. It belonged to poets and dreamers.

That's a stretch.
.
I said "some" in my comment.
.
What is culture that we can talk about it?
.
I've tried to show that it is like a garden in which seeds are planted and are cultivated to their potential. It seems like you would rather ignore that description and continue taking pot shots in other ways.
.
If you want to discuss the subject, we will have to accept some definition of culture. Otherwise, just take your shots and we'll see how that unfolds.

.
Can we drop back and get some understanding before we proceed?
.
In post number 26, Brother Jones responds to my comments. Here is the complete post:
.____________________________________________________________________________
.____________________________________________________________________________
.
"I think it makes no difference that we are created in the image of god or in any other way.
.
"What IS important is that we believe we are created in such an image. That's the point, isn't it?
.
"It is what we believe on which we build our experience.
.
"Well, I guess I am going to jump in on Oliver's side on this one. I think it matters greatly and certainly he does. I am just wondering how a person who takes Evolution seriously and follows the idea to some extent that mankind created a god and some supposed godly rules. How could any of us be benefited by the idea that such a god had an image of some sort of distinction? Maybe you can think of some good that could come of it. I think to the 'modern' person, the idea of 'image of a god,' is putting them at some risk to an idea of duty and destiny to act a certain way rather than to promote the survival of the race and of the fittest in putting into action the new culture that leaves such religions far behind.
.
"Isn't that what Migisi was trying to say to Brian in one of those threads that we kinda left behind? I could be wrong about this. It seems like she and Oliver are saying that religion is too risky a business to invest in any way in the idea that 'image of a god,' is worth something.
.
"So therefore, I am kinda back to the idea of what to do on planet Mars since we have a whole clean landscape to deal with without this idea of 'image of a god.' I have written before that Isaac [Asimov] believed that new cultures on future planets would not need churches or jails because of the evolution of our thinking.
.
i am just an oldtimer for the Lord."

.____________________________________________________________________________
.
.
You've tied your comments to other sources. While you, most likely, know what you are referencing, maybe you can see why I find that so difficult to understand. Am I supposed to research out your references? Why don't you just say what you mean? Maybe it's just not that important to you?
.

There was a recent report that aired nationwide about a manned flight to Mars which will take three years and NASA is trying to think through what to do if an astronaut gets sick, depressed, or dies on board. And also the problem of sending opposite gender into Space for such a length. They be talking sex here, old buddy. And that reminded me of some theories developed by writers years ago about planting new cultures on planets that were not infected by our culture. Off to work today.

» _Boanerges_ - what if - what if's

Who knows where I would be placed IF all the WHAT IFs occurred.

but.. what if - what if's - do not occur and that - what if - is only a subjective thought, leading to a compulsion?... some would claim "compulsion" as psychological issues... (P.C. crowd would simply claim it as - issues... smile.. happy

so - "what if" Jeff had "issues".... I say this in friendship. I had a real intolerant guy (who claims tolerance as his mantra) say to me - never talk to me again. When I clarified his statement, his answer was simple - "because, I do not trust what you say"....

boy.. talk about people with issues.. (shrug.. )

You are refering to the idea of nihilism which is the anihilation of culture so that humanity can have a fresh start.

I think I remember reading a paper on nihilism as it existed in Russia around World War One.

Pretty scarey.
