Interesting that you are so dedicated in performing such a persistant series of functions that point out the discrepancies in religious belief systems.
.
Are you able to show discrepancies in Judaism and Islam as well as you point out those in Christianity?

» HeadZenCards - Cognitive Dissonance

In response to Cognitive Dissonance posted by pink101:

I was brought up to be a Protestant but the following applies to anyone who believes in God.

When the going gets rough for Christian apologists trying to defend their biblical views, they'll often say, "You can't prove God doesn't exist."

They're exactly right.

Similarly, they can't prove the Easter Bunny doesn't exist.

However, they can be reasonably certain of its nonexistence when they make a judgment based on all available data.

The proposal for the other party to disprove the positive assertion is a logical fallacy known as shifting the burden of proof.

It's never the responsibility of the person denying the claim to prove otherwise, nor is it possible to prove something doesn't exist unless we burden this hypothetical phenomenon with rules and logic of our universe (e.g. disproving squared circles).

The person who makes the positive claim is always responsible for proving it's factual. Whether or not you believe that a god who makes a magical egg-delivering rabbit is more ridiculous than a god who is pleased by the smell of burnt flesh is simply a matter of perspective.

Each demands the same amount of proof.

I don't think so. I think Ollie adds a different perspective and a challenge to believers.

It would be nice were he to elevate the levels at which he wages his attacks on the Christian ideologies.
.
After a while it gets to be, same old, same old.
.
Makes me remember the joke where a group in a bar is sitting there saying numbers to each other when one guy says, 347, and everyone busts out laughing and hardly able to contain themselves.
.
New guy says, What are they doing?
.
Regular customer says, They've organized their jokes and given each one a number.
.
New guy says, Why did they bust out when the one said 347?
.
Regular customer says, It was a new joke they had never heard before.
.
Maybe Ollie could come up with something new?
.
Maybe I'm the one with the problem.
.
I'm willing to go either way.
.
I don't claim any superiority over his or anyone else's ways. It was only my opinion. Needless to say, he has every right to do whatever he likes.

That's why I haven't been around lately--SSDD same stuff different day.sad
.
When the Spaniards came here to colonize they brought priests with them, thinking they had a sacred duty to convert the heathen. The French also brought priests, but they were smarter than the Spanish; instead of trying to extinguish the Native's beliefs, they incorporated them into Catholicism.
.
I often wonder what kind of world we would have had if *both* the Spanish and the French had not assumed that the heathen needed to be converted, and instead had simply listened. We might be living in a more peaceful and enlightened nation.
.
I often wonder what kind of world we could have here if we stopped assuming the other person(s) was/were wrong and just listened--and maybe every once in a while shared from our hearts instead of shouting and pounding on the podium.
.
peace and love,
Paper Turtle

» pink101 - Deocration Day--Memorial Day

In response to Turtles posted by paper_turtle:
.
Pinky and the Brain was one of my all time favorites too.
.
I'm off to run some errands and to go to the health club and work out on the Pre-Cor peddler for 35 minutes. I have to keep my heart muscle working good.
.
I hope everyone has a good Memorial Day weekend. I can remember my first one when I was three going on four. In those days they called it Decoration Day. It was a day when people decorated the graves of those who fell during the American Revolution, the Civil War, the Spanish American War and World War One. The reason I can remember it is that my grand father was sexton of the cemetery across the street from the house where we lived and my grandmother set up a tent and sold flowers to the families for grave decorations. It is one of my first memories running around the cemetery.

The Bible has only 807,361 words in it. We are discussing a small box of thoughts, a finite, old manuscript written by primitive and violent people. Repetition sets in. That is its nature, not ours.

Protesting child murder is important to me. I am that child, you know?

This thread is the burden of proof. I ask that you consider proving to yourself that you are that child also.
