Hi, Jim, and welcome! happy

Yes--I am not persuaded by long-windedness, overly elaborate arguments, or arrogance. From what I have observed, those who appear to be persuaded by such means have usually either been intimidated into it, or simply caved in out of sheer weariness.

The dissonance between messages of love or wisdom and words of derision is enough to convince me to look elsewhere.

We can argue 'til we're blue-in-the-face, or 'til the air's blue, and we won't convince anyone of something they've already decided is false. That's why I don't debate. I'm always happy to participate in a spirited discussion, but it ends when sarcasm, intimidation, name-calling or anger enters.

You see, Brian, I too am phobic about confrontation.

I agree. Once the line has been crossed from spirited discussion to verbal violence, reason has left the room. I don't see that as phobic, but wise.
.
peace and love,
