- Asking in Prayer
Migisi, first most of your quotes are the same statements Jesus made - you're just giving all the Gospel renditions of those quotes. But anyway...
Asking for something in Jesus' name means MUCH, MUCH more than just mouthing those words. We've gotten in the habit of tacking "in Jesus' name" on the end of our prayers, and thinking we've done some great thing. That's NOT what praying in Jesus' name really means.
Praying in Jesus' name means that you're making your requests in HIS service - and on HIS behalf. (And, of course, prayer is really about spending time with God anyway - not treating Him like a Sears catalog - see James 4:2-4).
Lastly, praying in Jesus' name (I believe) also means praying LIKE Jesus. And we have the Lord's Prayer as a guide for that. In it, Jesus makes clear that we are to submit our desires to the Lord's WILL. "Thy kingdom come...Thy will be done." In addition, Jesus' prayer in Gethesemane demonstrates this when he pleads with the Father to let the "cup pass from me," but then says: "Not my will, but thy will be done." And then submits himself to the Cross.
Prayer is NOT as one-dimensional as you and Oliver are making it out to be.

- Disagreements
Pink, disagreements over the meaning of the Bible don't disprove the Bible. If you think they do, then you'd have to also say that disagreements over the legacy, intentions, wisdom, and policies of Abraham Lincoln disprove Abraham Lincoln.
Objectively speaking, the Bible is one of the most profound books (I would say the MOST profound book) EVER penned in all of human history! OF COURSE...there are going to be disagreements over it.

One will not find such a person bragging on his own, personal truth, but that person will say little--and change much. That "fruit of the Spirit" is the one reliable indicator of ones grasp of truth.

Yes--I am not persuaded by long-windedness, overly elaborate arguments, or arrogance. From what I have observed, those who appear to be persuaded by such means have usually either been intimidated into it, or simply caved in out of sheer weariness.
.
The dissonance between messages of love or wisdom and words of derision is enough to convince me to look elsewhere.
.
We can argue 'til we're blue-in-the-face, or 'til the air's blue, and we won't convince anyone of something they've already decided is false. That's why I don't debate. I'm always happy to participate in a spirited discussion, but it ends when sarcasm, intimidation, name-calling or anger enters.
.
You see, Brian, I too am phobic about confrontation.
.
I agree. Once the line has been crossed from spirited discussion to verbal violence, reason has left the room. I don't see that as phobic, but wise.

Instead of disagreeing with someone or simply saying "I don't find your arguments valid,"
the person engaging in verbal violence would say,
"You're a fool!" Or, "Only an idiot would say something like that." Or, "You obviously are incapable of rational thought."
That's verbal violence.

Jesus made outrageous claims that can be simply tested. Turns out he was a braggart and a liar.
You say that Jesus wrote the book. I've been up all night searching for the book of Jesus but can't find it. My bible stops at Revelation, where Jesus kills Jezebel's children with death.
The "fruit" of Jesus' spirit was intolerance. He attempted to turn good people like you against good people like me. He failed.
