» HeadZenCards - So....

In response to So.... posted by Migisi:

Take it from me: You and I are true protesters against injustice, true protestants and belong here. We are not, however, ismists.

An ismist is a protestant who appears to have stopped protesting injustice, perhaps because they stopped looking at their Bibles.

» redback - So....

"...a companion of..." Tis a statement I have proferred a few times since my early times here. I'd love to cite it's author but can't identify him. It fits in with say, whether or not I see a glass as half empty, half full or whether I should (say in a 'Pub With No Beer') order another one before tis truly empty. happy

Migisi: If I read Brian right, the agenda idea seems relevant to what is within us...not some task for the group. But hey..second guessing or paraphrasing here is akin to being in harms way. happy Stopping to reflect it as we're doing may serve the purpose...like treading water when one's tired.

» Migisi - Jews to sue Vet Administration over proselytizing

In response to The Prevailing Winds posted by pink101:

.
I thought this article would fit the title of this thread, rather than me start a new one for it. Military and hospital chaplains, take note:
.
Navy vet: Chaplains tried converting me
http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/05/na...
.
snippets:
....
"Navy veteran David Miller said that when he checked into the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City, he didn't realize he would get a hard sell for Christian fundamentalism along with treatment for his kidney stones.
.
"Miller, 46, an Orthodox Jew, said he was repeatedly proselytized by hospital chaplains and staff in attempts to convert him to Christianity during three hospitalizations over the past two years.
.
"He said he went hungry each time because the hospital wouldn't serve him kosher food, and the staff refused to contact his rabbi, who could have brought him something to eat....
....
"He described the Iowa City facility as an institution permeated by government sponsorship of fundamentalist Christianity and unconstitutional discrimination against Jews.
....
"Michael Weinstein, president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation and an attorney who worked in the White House under President Reagan, said Thursday that he is preparing to sue the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in federal court over Miller's treatment. He said he suspects other veterans have been treated similarly and that Miller's case could become a class-action lawsuit.
.
"He has been in the situation where clearly his faith - which happens to be the Jewish faith - is the wrong faith for the Veterans Administration," said Weinstein, an Air Force Academy graduate."
.

Thanks. When something here resonates with me and others sorely test my comfort zone...tis a great thought for me too.

If you're going to eat cheese cake, it has to be the real thing.

I might have a bite of someone else's if they're sitting at the same table with me. Otherwise, I'll just enjoy watching someone else.
