» Migisi - Burn baby, burn In response to Burn baby, burn posted by pink101:. Where do we get these ideas that drive us to such distractions? . Straight from the human MIND. Some minds are pretty vicious! . Are you saying they come from the Bible? . Some. More like the religious nut finds the ~justification~ in their sacred texts (the Bible or Qur'an, whatever) to commit their own atrocities. If a religious fanatic can't find justification, they claim Satan made them do it. Either way, they deny personal responsibility for their own horrendous behavior. . Clearly, the Bible authors had violent and cruel ideas which they disowned and instead attributed to their God. And note they write "the Lord God commanded...", not "Satan commanded...". Frankly, I often can't tell the difference between Satan and God. And apparently, some of the Bible authors had trouble too: 1 Chronicles 21:1, Satan incites David to commit the sin of taking a census of Israel. In 2 Sam. 24:1, this same story portrayed the LORD as the one who incited David to take the census. . Aren't there other sources about Satan than the Bible? . "Satan" is a HEBREW word for "adversary". However, the Hebrew angel "ha-satan" has no demonic qualities in the Torah writings. In fact, he's considered a great and glorious angel created by God for the purpose of testing and proving. . This is kinda interesting about Lucifer... http://www.lds-mormon.com/lucifer.shtml and this... What the Devil? Prince of Darkness Is Misunderstood, Says UCLA Professor http://www.physorg.com/news75128924.html . Where does Satan first appear in human history? Surely not in the Bible. . From what I've read, the name "Satan" first appears in the Bible. But the original idea of a demon didn't originate with the Jews. Seems to have been around since the cave man. Even he needed a scapegoat to explain why men do deplorable things to each other. -- posted by Migisi
