They were mistaken. Haven't you ever misheard what someone said? Haven't you ever read something hastily and thought it meant one thing only to discover later it meant something else?

Were you lying when you acted on what was a mistaken understanding?

peace and love,
Paper Turtle

.
BUT how do we make better sense of the Bible's account and fit it into our lives.
.
If you can make sense of nonsense, please show me how. It would make life so much simpler. happy
.
And if ... the OT becomes "flawed" OR of lesser relevance today ... by what 'consistency' measure can we be assured that problem has been contained to only one Book or one issue?
.
I don't think we can be ~assured~ by ~any~ measure that inconsistency is confined to one Book or issue. The inconsistencies throughout show the Book to be 'flawed'.
.
The Pope recently creates another 'saint' that its OK for people to pray to for relief of physical ailments. Surely, there's Biblical precedent for that?
.
I'm an ex-Catholic, raised in the doctrine. The Pope creates idols (saints). Now, God's the jealous type, dontcha know, and he will smite all who pray to idols. I really can't understand why anyone would believe that dead (wo)men will intercede on their behalf, when even Jesus won't. (John 16:26) -"In that day you will ask in my name. I am NOT saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf."
.
I'm not even sure now if the 'universe' is actually a 'multiverse' and the Planet Dag really does exist.
.
You only need to think and speak it into existance, and it will exist. That's how God created the universe. Easy, no?
.
...not maudlin suicidal thoughts.
.
That's a relief. happy

.
First, you excuse God. It wasn't his fault. Now you excuse the Bible writers with 'they were mistaken'.
.
You wrote in another post: The people who did those things know, in some part of their being, they were wrong, so that have to invent some justification--and the more horrendous the act, the more inflated the justification.
.
Do I mistake or mishear you to mean that they intentionally invented (and inflated) justification for their horrendous acts by attributing it to God's will? If that's what you meant, then they were not 'mistaken'. They were outright liars.

I've had enough. No harm done, and no hard feelings. I just don't see the point of continuing to go round and round.

I understand, PT. It's not that I'm disrespecting your position. On the contrary, I concede that it has great appeal, but I don't think we can pick-and-choose what aspects of God we like - and then discard the others. I think the issue comes down to canonization here. If the OT Scriptures that are in our present canon are God-inspired, then we have to factor them into our conception of God, no matter how personally unsettling they might be.

I understand where you're coming from, PT. This is a VERY sensitive issue. Migisi is in grilling mode happy, but I don't think she's attacking either of us personally.

Thanks for noticing, Bri.
.
When you believers stand before your God on Judgment Day, how prepared will you be for ~his~ grilling if you won't or can't answer a lil ol' gramma? Do you think God will go easy on you just because you call yourself a Christian and can recite the canned answers?
.
Matthew 12:36
But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

Colossians 4:6 - "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer ~~everyone~~."

No-one here has a case to answer. Paper Turtle and Brian are on a hiding to nothing here. Let's face it.

"If you can make sense of nonsense, please show me how."

takes my question to the next level...the baby and the bathwater test.

"not maudlin suicidal thoughts"

Sorry..the suicide thing came out of an article elsewhere. Nothing here is driving me to those thoughts or away from or to anything.
