» paper_turtle - Spring Peepers

In response to Spring Peepers posted by pink101:

Spring peepers are tiny, brown frogs, about the size of an average thumbnail. On spring evenings they sing, looking for a mate. The sound of their song can travel more than a mile. I've always found it hauntingly beautiful, but then I have a thing for frogs. happy

peace and love,

They make the road slippery.
.
Nope, they're not out yet; but, a couple of weeks ago, the swamp went crazy with thousands of frogs doing their thing. Then, winter returned. Now, Spring has truly sprung around here. Only the Oak trees are holding back; but, they are in full bud so it's just a matter of days for them to open up to the coming summer.
.
What a glorious time to be alive--Spring in the Northern tiers of the U.S.A. I'm sure it's the same in the Southern tiers of Canada.

I remember we did a thread called "I'm grateful for..." back on the old Forum. Wasn't it YOU who started that one too? I enjoyed it very much.

I'm your Dad, Paper. I'm ~my~ Dad. I'm the fixer. It's what I do. I fix wobbly fences, door hinges, squeaky wheels, holes in screen windows, shovel handles, rotted steps, my grandbaby's boo-boos, toys, broken wild birds... there's no end to my 'to do' list. But I'm also your Mom. "A mix of the two", as you say. I make time for those four-leaf clover hunts... and time to sing and hum, visit my garden, admire a starry night sky, play my flute for the birds, and take long perfumed soaks in the tub (just for ME). It creates much needed balance in my life.
.
I'm grateful for... the Spring sunshine and cool breezes.

Today I am grateful for the right to protest.

I am thankful for every human being who is willing to work through difficult issues.

I am extra thankful to those human beings who are not quite to the point of seeing the value in that kind of work because they help me to clarify my own beliefs and question my reasoning.

This morning I took a walk in spite of the TV weather person's threatened thunder. Coincidentally, a huge expanse of blue split the black clouds in two so I decided to sit outside on my morning boat ride to work. I saw two ducks surfing in the wake of the boat, also unafraid of the clouds coming back together.

I had an old Forum topic about the BBQ. A time to relax around a cyber BBQ with cyber mates. The snag sanger et al. Who was it told me of frangelico?? I only bought it as a result of Forum!! Good times then. happy happy

We're heading into winter here. I'm thankful I retired early, can snuggle down in bed at a time when I useta be half asleep on the crowded stuffy train going to work in the cold, dark, windy wet. Can relax over a cappuccino while workers scurry to/fro. Happy to socialise with my work colleagues some 7 years later knowing that office politics no longer stress me out. And take all the time it needs to help them out rather than be too hasty.

And I'm happy being a fair dinkum dag...mostly comfortable in my own skin, even if parts are now grafted. And you guys play a part of the good stuff too.

Yesterday
.
two mourning doves sat on my front step, carrying on a musical conversation.
.
a robin checked out the maple tree outside my kitchen window. I hope she decides to make a nest in it.
.
later on, that same tree was filled with goldfinches--so many that the tree looked decorated with them.
.
I heard the calls and songs of chickadees, bluejays, cardinals, crows, and ravens.
.
Each one of these felt like a gift.
.
peace and love,
Paper Turtle

» pink101 - When We're Thankful

In response to what we think/believe influences what we see posted by paper_turtle:
.
When we're thankful, we're reminded also of those things that seem burdensome--the lack of what makes us thankful.
.
I am thankful for the opportunity to bounce my ideas off others who do not necessarily share my perspectives on life.
.
These threads are opportunities for me to put my ideas "out there" where others can react against or in favor of them.
.
I ran a small business for several years in which I sought the cooperation of a team of workers to help me achieve certain goals and objectives. One of the major barriers to success was brought about by team members who saw the situation as an opportunity to compete with me for control of the group. I had no interest in the competition as it was more of a personality thing than it was aimed at achievement or for mutually satisfactory purposes.
.
At this late stage in my life, I am beginning to recognize a major problem with which we are all faced. It seems as though it is almost too simple to name; but, there it is--the struggle.
.
I think it is worthy of a thread. My fear is that it will end up as a struggle itself rather than a discovery.
.

I remember! It was winter in OZ when Reddeer first recommended it (Plox and I agreed). I suggested you set it aflame for more heat (but extinguish before drinking!). You were complaining about the cold. Yes, good times then, and good people - now gone from heresad . I miss them.

Well, I'm sure glad you returned to our discussions. Changed your user name, but I'd know your unique style anywhere. And I much enjoy getting your 'down under' perspective on things. You are the 'good stuff' for me too, Jeff.
