Thanks for that, Migisi. It was my grandma's birthday a few days ago. She'd have been 114. If she was still alive, I'm sure the picture I drew for her in first grade would still be on her wall.

Moms and Grammas are sentimental like that. I keep ~everything~ my kids and grandkids give me in labeled boxes.
.
When my mom died, we kids went through her stuff. Yep, she'd kept everything we gave her too. As we sorted through it, memories came flooding back. We laughed and cried together. I want my kids and grandkids to do that... laugh and cry ~together~ as a family - always.

Thanks, Migisi. I chocked up a bit reading your story.
.
Names and faces can be forgotten, but love between people is forever.
.
Yes. I know this is true, but I tend to think about this in relation to loved ones who have died but are still very much with me. Its equally true, though, for those still living but apparently absent in spirit.

I went to my granddaughter's dance recital last night. Of course I was extremely proud of her, and (speaking with total objectivity, of course) she was the best dancer on the program. ![]()
.
Today I am grateful for my beautiful granddaughter, and for the art of dance which writes poems with moving bodies.

I spent my afternoon hugging my shovel - wrestling out three very old rose bushes that had finally succumb to age. They'd been the focus and pride of my garden for many years... perfect petal and shiny leaf, dark maroon blooms to brilliant white.
.
There they lay, nothing but a heap of twisted roots and hollow gray stalks. I mourned a bit, then dragged them to the pyre out back. My garden was clearly fractured. Gaping holes where they'd been. What to fill the emptiness? Why sure - young happy plants with tender shoots waving at the sun, dancing in the wind, eager to sink deep roots and show their colors.
.
I too am grateful for grandchildren.

Yes, and a lovely young shoot she is, too.

Have I ever told you how much I appreciate your ability as a writer? Well, if not, consider yourself told. ![]()

Today I am grateful for weather warm enough for me to finally wear sandals again.
I am grateful for the silence of early morning and the daily wonder of watching the sun rise.

Good friends are coming today. My husband's firing up the grill for Rock Cornish game hens. He's been busy in the kitchen making up his best batch of ~everything~.
.
I'm so grateful he's a good cook, and he enjoys doing it.

Today and for all my tomorrows I am grateful for the example in your post of how human beings can get rid of the past, forgive themselves, and become aware of moving on without being tied to the heap of twisted roots and hollow gray stalks called the Bible.
Got room for one in that pyre of yours?
