» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Reasons to Reject the God of the Bible

I'm creating this thread for Oliver and anyone else who wants to join in on his arguments (pot shots really) against the biblical God.

Pink sometimes enjoys taking these shots too.

So, here you go, Pink and Oliver, this thread's for you. Have at it!

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Constructive Criticism or...

There is a difference between making constructive criticism or laying out honest, sincere objections and then what Oliver does (and sometimes Pink - though not always and not even most of the time).

What I don't respect is when someone just flies into a discussion and drops a bomb or two -- attacking people of faith over this or that -- and then moves onto another thread to do the same thing. It's immature and inflammatory.

If you want to have an honest discussion over Christianity and the Bible, fine. Bring it on. If you just want to take pot shots, hurl accusations, fire broadsides, push people's buttons for personal enjoyment, etc. - then please refrain from doing so.

Matt. 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

With the Biblical references, are you implying that Brian was being judgmental? I thought he was giving his opinion - which I suppose requires judgment of behavior and events.
-
As a Christian, I've never really figured out how to be nonjudgmental and still be discerning. I mean, we get to have our own opinions about stuff, right? But we shouldn't insult others in the process. That has nothing to do with Christianity; it's just adhering to a civil level of decency and focused communication (as opposed to seguing into irrelevant bunny trails or personal insults).

Jesus taught that the way to be nonjudgmental and still discerning is to look within and solve your own issues first.

W. C. Fields advised his niece to count to ten as she picked up a brick to throw at harrassing houligans.

After she did, he said: "NOW throw! You've got a better aim!"

What do you mean by "nasty"?

Imprecise is more like it.

How can I be Anti-God if I do not believe in a God?

Brian has yet to define what he means by God in any event. If I am wrong, please show me where he has and I will apologize to him for the preceding sentence.

I am Anti-Thinking-The-Bible-Is-Perfect, but I am Pro-Reading-The-Damm-Thing, for those who profess to be Christians.

It's difficult to discuss a subject without putting it is its context.
.
There has to be a word for that.
.
But, how can we approach the Bible as the Revealed Word of God without putting that definition in the context of how it got to be seen as such. When and why did its defenders start calling it that?
.
In other words, what are the issues involved?

» pink101 - Why Does Brian Frame This Discussion As Such

In response to Reasons to Reject the God of the Bible posted by pink101:
.
Brian frames this thread as, Reasons to Reject the God of the Bible.
.
Why did you do that, Brian?
.
Better, if you truly are interested in any discovery of truth, to have framed the subject as Identifying The God Of The Bible.

I found dog excrement on my front step this morning.

I could have wasted time by examining it and the process that brought it there (that is, did it come from my dog or my next door neighbor's dog, did the animal eat any corn yesterday, etc) but instead I just scooped it up and threw it away.

If I did not have a shovel nearby and my wife came running out to give me my lunch because I had forgotten to take it, I would say "Look out! Don't step in the sh*t!".

That is all that is necessary here.
