Yes--and the kids were all first-graders. I'd be very curious to see how well the correlation between religion and positive delveopment played out as the children reached adolescence.

Step 1: Put a parental block on them accessing suite101??? ABC

The major problem is the actual research is hidden to us. A teacher laughed at me today when I asked about consistently assessing behaviour of 16,000 kids. There are situational issues. Would the same kids display the same behaviour..at the beach..at MacDonalds? And I'd like to think the term 'religion' is intended to include spirituality.

You're right. Kids (and adults) act differently in different situations. And scholastic achievement is not necessarily a reliable index in predicting either future success or becoming a happy and well-adjusted adult.

IMHO a focus on spirituality (in the sense of developing a healthy and loving relationship to God, oneself, others, and the rest of existence) provides a good foundation for leading a satisfying and constructive life.

What a surprise, kids!

38:8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and RAISE UP SEED to thy brother.

"Daddy, what does 'raise up seed' mean?" Never mind, we've got another GOOD part coming up.

38:9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he WENT IN UNTO HIS BROTHER'S WIFE, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

38:10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

See kids? Everything works out. The LORD GOD kills everybody who spills seed on the ground (and almost everyone else!)

You know, kids, I like you a lot, but liking Jesus is much more important to me than you are. That's why you don't get everything you need. Listen to what Jesus says:

Matt. 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

"But Daddy, I love you MORE than Jesus!"

It's OK, little Laurie, I love Jesus so much more than you that my love for him makes up for it. But if you want to get to heaven, you'd better change your mind before you start having your period.

I don't think religion is good for children.

Running and hiding is the perfect reaction to it, so I'm proud of the children who post at Suite 101.
