Jesus said that you'll know them by their fruit. And the Apostle John (writing in his epistle - I John) says that people will know true disciples of Christ by their LOVE for each other.

Christians are called to love EVERYBODY. But the Apostle John was pointing out that if this is the case, then there will naturally be a spirit of LOVE in Christian congregations. And that will be evidence of their discipleship. Of course, this love (if genuine) would ALSO be projected outward.

they don't really personally invest themselves in the success of the team.
.
But they DO 'invest' in the success of the team. They buy game tickets, memorabilia, team shirts and hats, etc. And Christians also 'invest' in Jesus in the same way - by dropping their tithings into the church collection basket, paying fees for religious ceremonies, buying cakes at bakes sales for new chapel chairs, etc.

Jesus-As-Written's fruit was damnation for non-believers. No love there, just politics as usual.

There are exceptions within every 'religious base'. The peaceful and the hateful, so to speak.
Jesus isn't in the business of stopping free-will. Everyone one of us has the choice to be hatefilled or not.
How would you stop World 'hatred' HZ?

You're right. I did forget about the bequeathing of property and other assets to churches.

- Standard of Success
Barna's point (and mine) is that following Christ isn't about cheering on your church, giving money to it, etc. - although that COULD be part of it. (Our church gives food and assistance to the local homeless shelter each month - and we strive to help families in need. Obviously, it takes resources to do that, so giving is a part of that. But it's not the only part).
Jesus never built a multi-million dollar worship center. He never asked people to send him money - and he would then, in turn, pray for their needs. We need to keep Jesus in mind when we ask whether we are truly FOLLOWING him.
