How much of the world's hatred do you think is a direct result of religion this day and age?

Got any good ideas for getting the congregation to be a little more sacrificial in their giving?
.
Hype up the guilt and fear. That always worked with the Jews and Catholics. Tee hee.

Jesus actually says in scripture that Men will reject him because of us.
.
I think you may have that backwards.
Matt 10:22, Mark 13:13, Luke 21:17 - All men will hate you because of me...
Matt 24:9 - ... and you will be hated by all nations because of me.
.
But then John says (7:7) - The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil.
.
And then in John 15:18 - If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
.
Either way - you're hated because of Jesus, Jesus is hated because of you... it's a set up for a persecution complex, IMO.

Look at how MLK and Gandhi were hated. They rocked the boat, big time, and people find this intolerable.

Verses such as the ones you quoted bother me, because they are often used to justify obnoxious, hateful behavior. Someone will beat you over the head with the Bible, and when you--understandably--react, they think their tactics have been validated.![]()

Paper Turtle mentions MLK and Gandhi. Weren't they motivated by...how did you put it?..."religious nonsense"?

Exactly. Jesus said they'd be hated. Never mind their obnoxious approach.
.
I get the sense that some think - Jesus was hated, so if I'm hated, I'll be just like Jesus. And if I'm not hated, I'm failing in the Great Commission.
Go figure.

Human beings have the power to help ideas evolve, even silly ones like pie-in-the-sky-when-you-die and demand for worship of voyeuristic gods who want their followers to kill children.-- posted by HeadZenCards

- Obnoxious Christians
Migisi and PT, I missed this exchange between the two of you. I agree completely. There ARE some obnoxious Christians out there that understandably infuriate and provoke others through their badgering - and then they retreat back into some martyrdom posture. I've seen it a lot.

Well, you've made some progress. At least you're willing to admit that having strong religious convictions doesn't DISQUALIFY someone from the Great Human Being club.
