What can we do with straw?

It does have value.

We can feed it to the beasts of burden so they perform work, but even the lowliest donkey cannot live on it.

Eventually, his work will suffer unless we subsidize his diet with some vegetables and water.

We can make roofs for huts out of it, but modern man has invented better places to rest and be comfortable.
