» HeadZenCards - Drano Challenge

In response to Drano Challenge posted by Migisi:

Your sister's coffee does not count unless it has actually killed something.

Maybe this is how Jesusists-As-Written justify the "any deadly thing" nonsense.

If they took your sister's coffee and drowned ants in it, it would become a deadly thing. Then a true believer wouldst drink of it, live, and prove Mark's Jesus' words.

But then, there's that word "any".

Any magician worth his salt could convince a crowd of suckers that he drank something deadly and survived. Thus, the carefully controlled and scientific drano challenge, valid only if taken in a neutral setting.

» Migisi - Counting

In response to My writing posted by Twice__Pardoned:
.
My grand daughter is learning to count. She counts two pennies out, adds two more pennies, and then counts them all. Yep, she learns there are four pennies all together.
.
When she counts them, she uses her little index finger to physically move each one. She can touch, see, taste, smell, and can hear them when they drop on the floor or clink together in her pocket. Pennies are tangible things, and math is provable. Is God?

It became a deadly thing to the centipedes in her basement. But maybe those multi-leggers were scalded to death, not actually poisoned. Even water can kill when scalding hot. A variable in the equation?

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - The Misunderstanding Continues

Once again, I do not believe - nor did I say - that the Bible's claim of divine inspiration settles the matter. And I'm not muddying the waters.

There are steps a person must take in arguing for the divine inspiration of the Bible - logical steps. Establishing that the Bible makes the claim of divine inspiration for itself is the FIRST step. It simply establishes that it's a claim - and that the claim is part of Christian doctrine. Nothing more.

That's all I'm saying. YOU all are over-stating my point and building up a strawman caricature to bash away at. IF that makes you happy, go ahead - but know that you're attacking an argument I'm NOT making.

-Brian

p.s. PaperTurtle, I understand that other religious scriptures make similar claims. My argument simply puts the Bible in the same category of the others - religions that have scriptures which claim divine inspiration. From there, the analysis should continue to see which religions can make that claim with the most plausibility and credibility.

Based on what foundation? You can argue anything and prove your points as long as everyone accepts your primary point. What is that for you, Brian?

In response to Drano Challenge posted by HeadZenCards:

Oliver, first, "signs and wonders" aren't always supernatural, mystical things. The fact that the early church exploded in such growth could be described as a "wonder" and a "sign" of God's blessing.

However, with respect to healings and such...what denomination were you a part of? First, the "signs and wonders" were given to the apostles - NOT to everday believers. I can't and don't perform direct healings or other miracles. I can pray and ask God to do these things, but I can't personally, unilaterally do them - as Peter, John, and the other apostles could. There are many denominations I know that disagree with me, and I think they've caused SERIOUS damage to the Christian community - and your experience is evidence of that.

I took that first step. I acknowledged that as fact, then took it to the next step. Do you want to stop at the first step and go no further?

From there, the analysis should continue to see which religions can make that claim with the most plausibility and credibility.
.
What criteria shall we use to decide this? Material evidence? I've been asking you for this, without result.

In response to Drano Challenge posted by BrianTubbs:
.
First, the "signs and wonders" were given to the apostles - NOT to everday believers.
.
Really?
.
Jesus appointed seventy-two OTHER believers, who were not Apostles.
Luke 10:1 -- "After this the Lord appointed SEVENTY-TWO OTHERS and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go."
.
Jesus told them to do signs and wonders: 9 "Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.'"
.
And they did, and gave testimony to it.
17 "The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."
.
So, Jesus (in his own words here) DID authorize more than just the twelve (or eleven) Apostles to do signs and wonders.
18 "He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."

In response to Drano Challenge posted by Migisi:

Amen.

And the words in Mark say "them that believe": Them that believe can pass the drano challenge.

This is not true now and it was not not true then.

Therefore, Mark's Jesus lied in the King James version.

Since quoting the Bible creates a strawman, Brian, than the Bible is proven to be straw.

True Believers in Jesus As Written are only coloring straw to make it look like a rich and artistic tapestry, but in reality it is only straw.

Approach it. Pick it up. Shake it a bit. It falls apart.

What can we do with straw?

It does have value.

We can feed it to the beasts of burden so they perform work, but even the lowliest donkey cannot live on it.

Eventually, his work will suffer unless we subsidize his diet with some vegetables and water.

We can make roofs for huts out of it, but modern man has invented better places to rest and be comfortable.

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Let Me Be Clear

In response to The Misunderstanding Continues posted by Migisi:

I hear you, Migisi. It's just that I've been on the defensive these last several posts trying to explain what I said.

To EVERYONE...let me be clear....

The following is NOT my position....

1. The Bible says it's inspired
2. Therefore, the Bible is inspired

I am only laying out the Bible's claim of inspiration as 1) a FIRST step in the argument to persuade skeptics to take the Bible seriously, and 2) to establish (for any Christian readers) that divine inspiration of the Bible IS a biblical and a Christian doctrine.

Now, moving on...
