» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Apostles

In response to Drano Challenge posted by Migisi:

That's correct, Migisi. I was defining apostle very broadly. I was not referring just to the primary twelve. Nevertheless, thanks for the correction. You are right to call me on that.

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Tests of Divine Inspiration

I'm preparing an article on this subject. I think it's an important one, and I'm working on it. Give me a day or two, please. In the meantime, I'll say this...

If someone steps forward and says that he or she speaks directly for God, there ARE some tests we can put to that person to establish credibility.

Same applies for ancient, sacred documents.

I don't expect nor do I necessarily even desire for sincere skeptics to just jettison their brains and embrace divine inspiration of the Bible simply because the Bible says it's inspired. It IS reasonable for the skeptic to ask for some validation of that claim.

In response to Let Me Be Clear posted by BrianTubbs:

Most skeptics take the Bible and what it says very seriously and agree that people who believe in it think that it is a Christian doctrine that the Bible is divinely inspired.

This has been a matter of concern for caring skeptics for ages.

You have been spinning around for quite awhile and seem stuck. Please move on to your non sequitur.

And the words in Mark say "them that believe": Them that believe can pass the drano challenge... This is not true now and it was not not true then.
.
I can't recall any written accounts in the NT when any believer took the Drano challenge and proved that claim, can you?
.
There's a 13th century Catholic legend that Roman Emperor Dometian tried to kill the Apostle John with poisoned wine. But after John blessed the wine, the poison rose up and out of the chalice in the shape of a serpent. John drank the wine and survived. Oh, he was also tossed into a cauldron of boiling oil too, and stepped out unscathed. Cool magic, ay?

There is no punishment for lying positively about Jesus. There is no punishment for mocking the idea of Jesus.

There's only this children's party going on with sticks and stones not breaking bones, only words here hurting them that believe.

In response to Let Me Be Clear posted by HeadZenCards:

I've only been spinning, because people here have been accusing me of saying something that I'm NOT saying. Yes, I get sensitive. It's my weakness. But it especially "frosts my cookies" (to use an expression I heard back in Virginia) when people distort my position in order to score points against me in public. Of course, I used to be active in politics, so I know it happens all the time.

I'm fine to move on, though.

Well, he'd have to be raised from the dead first. And THAT would be the ultimate magic act, wouldn't it. (wink)
