» Migisi - Speaking Of American Freedom In response to Speaking Of American Freedom posted by pink101:. A religionist giving his word for the entire congregation. . The imam ~does~ speak for the entire mosque congregation. He's the ~only~ one who can. It's not like a Christian church having a board of elders or a member vote. And not just anyone can climb onto the minaret balcony and start calling folks to prayer. . I don't want to hear some yahoo crying out over the town reminding everyone to get out their prayer rugs and to go down on their knees in prayer--or else. . Doesn't mean you ~have~ to grab a rug and pray - any more than you have to "repent' when the Christian evangelist with a bull horn on the street corner says you have to. . I think that would be an invasion of my privacy. . Heh heh. You still think you've got privacy to invade? That went out with the social security number and the bar code. The final blow was the Patriot Act. . From the article: "We don't have anything against Muslims," said Oskar Freysinger, member of parliament for the Swiss People's Party. . "But we don't want minarets. The minaret is a symbol of a political and aggressive Islam, it's a symbol of Islamic law. The minute you have minarets in Europe it means Islam will have taken over." . They allow steeples on Christian and Catholic churches. Same thing as a minaret, really. This minaret being opposed is only 15 feet tall. It's not the Tower of Babel. It's clear to me that Oskar and others calling for a ban obviously ~do~ have something against Muslims. Oskar's last remark tells all. It reminds me of the kind of ignorant comments we heard about blacks back in the civil rights years ... "if you let them niggers ride in the front of the bus, they'll take over the country." -- posted by Migisi
