From the posted article: "If no one had prayed for U. S. troops in Iraq, would this God who is on their side have allowed 3600 or 5400 to be killed instead of the 1800 who have so far died?"
.
http://icasualties.org/oif/default.aspx
Total American soldiers dead since March 03: 3,475
Total self-inflicted deaths (suicides): 111
Total US wounded: 25,242
.
An estimated 63,000 Iraqi civilians dead (Brookings Institution).

God is on nobody's side.

These are what some folk call numbers.
.
But, whenever I visit a memorial in Saginaw, Michigan, where the names of my friends who were killed in Korea are listed, I think about the fact they never married and never had children. I wonder about those babies that were never born and the living that was never experienced. I look at my children and at theirs and am so thankful that I was not killed in war.

Dale Hart. Lost in a flight over North Korea. U.S.A.F.
Bob Stark. Killed in action. U.S. Army
Zane Vasold. Killed in action. U.S.M.C.

.
I have personal stories about each one of these friends.
Entire worlds get destroyed before they exist. That is what war is all about.
.
God Damn War!!

The DOD sees numbers. You and I see PEOPLE. Flesh and blood, with names, and friends and families who mourn.

God Damn War!!

One would think an 'all-loving' God would!! But he didn't, doesn't, and won't.sad So, that leaves it up to ~us~ to damn war, doesn't it.

» pink101 - American Freedom & Liberty

.
There are two distinct views of what freedom means in America. At present, the main view that is being given to the American public is coming from conservatives who are re-framing the idea in a way that can be very dangerous to freedom itself.
.
George W. Bush invokes freedom and liberty often in his speeches and press conferences. In one State of the Union speech he used the words forty-three times. He named the war in Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom. So, it cannot be said that he is opposed to freedom and liberty.
.
But, what does he mean when he uses these words. What do YOU think he means when he uses them? What do YOU mean when YOU use them in any context or form?
.
Since 9-11, we have heard over and over again and again that our government is working overtime to keep us free from the fear of an enemy attack on our land that will kill so many innocent Americans. But, we also hear that we must be able to forgo some of our liberties in order to make it possible for our government to protect us so that we can be free.
.
Let's see, we must give us some of our liberties so that we can be free?
.
Does that make any sense at all?
.
We have heard that both the Bible and American democracy proclaim the concepts of freedom and liberty for us so that we can live a most abundant life style. The apostle Paul tells us to "stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free" and the U.S. Constitution disallows our government for legislating restrictions on certain liberties we enjoy.
.
I think chapter 8 in Romans and the First Amendment to our Constitution highlight our freedoms and liberties quite well.
.
But, how does freedom work. What is it?
.
In order to discuss these ideas we could think of freedom and liberty as something one owns--possession of a property.
.

In order for God to "damn" or eliminate war, He would have to eliminate sin. Unchecked greed and the lust for gain is the root of all evil - of all sin. God would need to eliminate that in order to eliminate war. Otherwise, wars will always be with us.

So, you'd attribute the Iraq war to 'unchecked greed and the lust for gain..."? I agree.

I'd attribute just about all war to that.

But it's too superficial to lay the blame squarely on the shoulders of the United States. Anti-war leftists, however, thrive on superficiality when it comes to bashing America.

Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq was one of the most ruthless, greedy, power-hungry governments in Middle Eastern history. And that's saying something. The United States tried to check that greed and aggression through diplomacy and trade during the Cold War, but later resorted to force - first in 1991 with Desert Storm and then in 2003 with the invasion of Iraq and the takedown of Saddam's government.
