You don't seem to care if horrible examples of how to react to situations are taught to the real human beings called "children".

It has been quite some time. Possibly years. But I was one of several people who tried to show we cared by taking your passages in context and giving various helps and interpretations that would give you glimpes into what the Old Testament world appeared to be 3-4k years ago.

Do you want to try to revisit those old posts? How many times would show that I cared?

I am not hypnotized by names on a page.
Unlike you, I do not want to become anyone's slave.

When you truly love God, do you really have that choice?

Okay, ABC. I'll make my best effort on your post #210. But you are going to have to wait until I get back from a weekend devoted to rest and relaxation on the beach. I have been working a bit hard lately, so I'm off for a few days with Sister. Try not to go anywhere. I'm starting to enjoy you a little more than I used to.

Something's made me stop procrastinating. I've bought the airline ticket, accomodation's booked and I await the days away.

It's 5:45pm EST and very dark..Saturday...it's been a beautiful sunny day despite winter's looming threat. Dinner was 10.30pm last night..but not tonight. I AM going...now...clicking..'reply now'...then 'turn off'...G..o..n..e!!!

I have consistently opposed the idea of the vengeful "god" so many uphold, is a god at all; but, that it is the creation of a priesthood bent on controlling a primitive people. Obviously, if you can convince a bunch of children that they will burn in hell for eternity, many of them will continue to believe it when they are adults. It's lthe boogie-man god of the Dark Ages.

You certainly did not get it from the New Testament, unless the God that Jesus spoke of was a different God than the OT's Frankenstein.

He is stuck on his belief that what used to be known as the Good Book (before people actually started reading it) is the perfect and unerring word of the Creator of the Entire Universe.

In spite of other posters here disliking my personality, rudeness, cruelty, crassness and utter disregard for the English language at times, I believe that a majority of people who post here agree with your last post and my preceding paragraph.

Are the words of Jesus just another creation of that anal and evil priesthood, in which case, Pinky, what is the foundation for your belief in ANYTHING written about Jesus?

Why call that force "Jesus"? Why not call it "The Human Spirit"?

The Human Spirit, the same spirit in men and women who were taught to believe in Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Zeus, and (insert God, animal, mineral or vegetable here) is what needs to be written about and celebrated.
.
In writing about human beings, we need to be careful about inserting fantastic claims like "the atonement", "the resurrection", "the after life", "the blood", "the victory over death" or any such nonsense.
.
Most people, including me, have very good bullsh*t detectors. We know what is not true in our everyday lives and do not truly believe in the baloney in the above paragraph.
.
We'll pay it lip service in our face-to-face dealings with people of faith who we need to accomplish our goals. Some of us hope religion keeps their kids out of trouble, hope it gets their neighbor to help them when their crops fail, even hope that it brings them luck in their day-to-day existence.
.
They know that the only miracle they will see is getting through another work week or thirteen so that they can fly into the clouds and vacate their work life for a bit of rowdy fun.
.
But they return, and if they consider themselves Christians, no matter how far away they've gone, or what jollies they've had, they return stuck with the following.
.
How do Christians RID themselves of a LORD GOD who, at one time did and may again, inspire its followers to utterly destroy infants and sucklings unless they explain to their own satisfaction what Jesus meant by Matt. 7:21-23?
.
My answer is that they renounce the oppressive Bible and start celebrating the potential of REAL human beings.
.
The potential of real human beings is not found by searching out what they smoke, eat, drink, or appear to believe, as the advertising machine and preachers like Brother Jones would have you believe.
.
The potential of real human beings is found in what they can do to get the world out of the mess it gets into from time to time.
.
A great starting point is to look within and empty ourselves of any previous ego. That ego is what got the world into trouble in the first place.
.
A good technique is to go about your normal business and NOTICE the things that used to upset you, instead of ALLOWING those things to provoke a response.
.
Eventually, you will begin to know your own ego. You will see it for what it is, not as what you are.
.
What are you? You are the one who keeps going after you become aware.
.
What if you discover more problems within your own make up? You see them for what THEY are. You become clarified. You remain the one who keeps going after you become more aware.
.
This process of human development is going on all over the world, more and more, all the time.
.
Good people help each other confront problems and they keep going after they become more aware.
.
Eventually, the number of people who are becoming more aware will be in a majority. The love and patience that they show themselves for their own problems, the problems that they have let go of, will allow them to keep going after they become more aware.
.
It will allow them to have patience for the minority who have not enjoyed their success.
.
Now there is heaven on Earth when People keep going after they become more aware.

I just believe in humanity and I think Jesus was a human being--if he really existed as explained in the Bible or not. To me that is child's stuff and I finally have been able to put that away.

I've lived longer than the life span of the average person and I don't see an end in sight for me yet. But, who knows? (knock, knock--who's there, the boogie man?).

There is a great deal of good in the Bible and if any person is raised on much of what it teaches they will, more than likely, make it pretty good in a world under its control. After all is said and done, it is a major building block of our social structure--almost impossible to dismiss after so many generations have come and gone.

The Koran provides the same tool for the World of Islam just as Torah guides Jewish children down a path of discipline. Nazi fascism would have performed the same task for its followers were it not for the outrage against it.

Someplace in the all but ignored and forgotten past here at Suite101.com I brought up the idea of an ongoing struggle. Jesus is a very important part of that struggle; but, he was conscripted by religionism to carry out certain tasks of keeping people in bondage. His message was--thoroughly--one of liberation. How come he came to be the chief warden of the prison?

Did it start with Constantine and the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church or was it already in place--put there by the Caesars? Maybe Moses is behind it all? Who knows? Do you?

I'm still on a learning curve and trying not to be glued to a perch in some guilded cage.

Asking modern man to forget the LORD GOD and love Jesus and appreciate the good words in the Bible is like asking modern man to forget the holocaust and love the people of Hitler's Germany and appreciate the good words in Mein Kampf.

Didn't Hitler get people working again? Didn't the trains (to Aushwitz anyway) run on time?

You see how silly that is and how your bullsh*t detector would be screaming at this point, no matter how much you love the German people.

Why not rewrite a better book without all the fantastic lies? Germany, perhaps the greatest country to live in today, has learned how to do it.

Jesus does not have the copyright on any of the sweet sentiments you can cherry pick from the Bible.

But the name of Jesus is TAINTED by the name of the LORD GOD, like Germany was tainted by the name of Hitler.

Humankind is beginning to see that kind of ego for what it was. They are letting it go with love or disgust, but they are letting it go.

They know that the Biblical story does not describe them or their lives.

People are becoming aware that what they leave behind is for the best. And in today's Germany, we see what can happen when people let go of the past, forgive themselves, and work together to create heaven on Earth.

I'm reading a great little book by George Lakeoff, Whose Freedom. I've mentioned it several times here at Suite101.com. Basically, Lakeoff teaches that there are two definitions of freedom and that these separate views are in opposition to each other. And, he discusses our socialization in so far as we are taught the method of the strong family structure with a strict father. The model carries through to the society we share with each other. The leaders take on the role of the father and the system takes on the role of the nuturant mother. It's much more complicated than that; but, you get the idea, I'm sure.
.
There is a lot of good that comes from the strong father who instills discipline in the children. Problem is, that whed we reach adulthood, we should be able to discipline our own behavior. Instead, we continue to look to leaders for guidance. Maybe that played out too much in Fascist Germany. And, as bad as we thought fascism was, here we are sucking up to it once again.

Pinky, you bring up some great points about what is happening out there.

Where can we begin to help?

IMHO, the best way we can fight the influence of fascistic socialization is to see it for what it is and try to put an end to it IN OURSELVES.

Where I find people who seem unable to free themselves and their society, I show them a real fascistic father and put them in the corner they have made for themselves and force them with my WILL to go there and SIT and MEDITATE.

I do it in the same spirit and the same ANXIOUSNESS that a mirror does its work.

If they really want it, I mean BEG for it, I will hit them over the head with my stick, but most people see their reflection and come out of their delusions very quickly.

They have a resurrection, Pinky, in spite of the outside stuff. They see that the best way to solve the out-there problems is to work on what they can: themselves.

They become the ones who keep going after becoming aware of the problems with society based upon a strong father.

Their numbers are growing. They will stop the next Hitler. They are stopping George Bush today.
