The Bible is either being poetic about the heart or not (and I'm not aiming to be pedantic on behalf of heart transplant patients).
Here are three ideas as given through Blaise Pascal that have meant a great deal to me over the years when it comes to understanding why the life of Jesus is so completely confusing to many:
Jesus Christ is an obscurity (according to what the world calls obscurity), such that historians, writing only of important matters of states, have hardly noticed Him.
As Jesus Christ remained unknown among men, so His truth remains among common opinions without external difference. Thus the Eucharist among ordinary bread.
Jesus Christ would not have the testimony of devils, nor of those who were not called, but of God and John the Baptist.
When it comes to trying to fathom why Jesus is so important to every day of our life and every conversation and every decision that we make, it begins to weigh on the mind whether so many are blind through their own choice to run to the opinions of those who see nothing valuable at all in the life of Jesus, and it becomes sort of a nightmare for those who continue to wonder why all this talk about an ancient tribe of wandering Jews and this one particular Jew.
Stone upon stone, until a house is either built or a person trips over Jesus, and just loses any taste for God completely.
i am just an oldtimer for the Lord.
