In response to Doctrine posted by Brother_Jones:
I think that I understand that teaching and preaching are not very high priorities on the list of components of your faith, especially when looking to others. But it seems presumption to to warn others of this kind of communication, when Jesus spent so much time teaching and preaching.
.
You may recall that I was a Sunday School teacher for many years. I was also very active in lay ministry. I've given a fair number of sermons and given even more children's sermons.
.
I speak so strongly against all this wrangling about points of belief because very often (it seems to me) that you (and sometimes other Evangelicals) are saying (even more strongly) that whatever one discovers about God through personal experience is of no consequence whatsoever.
.
I see you saying, over and over, that because I, or Phil, or Migisi believe thus-and-so we can't possibly be right with God.
.
I'm not speaking for the masses here. I'm addressing those actively present, who are all adults who have already more or less made up their minds about what to believe. You don't know, on the basis of what I say here, what I might say to a Sunday School class, were I still teaching one.
.
.
if we don't at least try to discover the biblical meanings of the life of Jesus,
.
How do you know I don't do that? How do you know that Phil, Migisi, or whomever does not read their Bibles prayerfully and with the intent of discovering Truth? Does speaking about faith devleoped through relationship preclude also reading the Bible? Hardly. As I see it, the Bible is one long love letter from God. ![]()

peace and love,

I do recall.

No, I've never taken that position. I get hammered all the time from Christians who don't accept my charismatic experiences. You are really stretching on this thought.
I see you saying, over and over, that because I, or Phil, or Migisi believe thus-and-so we can't possibly be right with God.
Well, this is a complicated indictment. You've got three people and all are friends of mine in the sentence. I couldn't have treated everybody the same if I had tried. This is just some sort of liberal banter, which is unsupported and you usually don't make these kind of unspecific pronouncements.
How do you know I don't do that? How do you know that Phil, Migisi, or whomever does not read their Bibles prayerfully and with the intent of discovering Truth?
I am just not following your ideas here at all. Why do you keep packaging yourself with Phil and Migisi? Do you guys get together for coffee somewhere and discuss this group? lol. My comments were to you. Following Christ is complicated enough without doubling and tripling all of these communications.
i am just an oldtimer for the Lord.

stop disputing about mere words. It does no good, and it is the ruin of those who listen. (wink)
It's certainly my ruin, I prefer Chemistry topic.

- Paul & Jesus
Was Paul in total agreement with what Jesus taught?
Yes
Just curious who you follow.
I think that's a false choice. Obviously, my allegiance is to Jesus, but this doesn't mean I have to reject Paul. Paul was an apostle of Jesus Christ.

- Faith and History
I think the evidence is overwhelming that OJ killed his ex-wife and her companion. However, I was NOT there, so I don't know with absolute, 100% certainty. BUT...I'm sure beyond a "reasonable doubt."
That's the confidence I have - and I believe we can ALL have - in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The evidence, when one takes the time to actually study it, is overwhelming. It's not 100% conclusive, because we weren't actually THERE. But the evidence is nevertheless TOO compelling to ignore.
Now, I'm NOT suggesting that my Christianity is based only or primarily on this line of reasoning. But it does BOLSTER and UNDERGIRD my faith and my relationship with God. It makes me MORE confident in Christ.

Amen. If there was evidence, there would be no need for faith, according to most effective apologists when cornered by the facts. Most run-of-the-mill Christian apologists sound like cigarette salesman we endured on the TV in the 1950s. Spiritually, they are just as deadly as Arthur Godfrey and his ilk were with tobacco with their pitch for Jesus nonsense.
"Jesus Christ - smoooooth, satisfying, the Real One...recommended by 4 out of 5 doctors.... strawmen, try some today..."
History shows there is no evidence for Jesus Christ as written in the Bible. The books written long after his supposed death are probably an amalgamation of stories about dozens of first century nut-jobs.
