Emotions are in the mind, but they arise from the right side of the brain, the creative, non-rational side. Intellect is from the left side--ALL logic and rationality.

The ego (speaking simply) is the primitive part of the brain which is only concerned with survival. The ego tends to prefer the intellect over emotion because it leaves no grey areas, no unnerving possibilities.

PS: There's an area of the brain between the left and right lobes. This area assists communication between the two lobes. AND this area is more well developed in women than in men--implying that women are better in synthesizing emotion and thought into one.
