In response to Reponse to Pink posted by BrianTubbs:
.
Medically speaking, the male gamete--the sperm--carries all of the life of the male progenitor.
.
If that's your argument, then, Onan's sin is murder of millions of unborn human organisms.
.
My position is that legalized abortion is better than the alternative which used to be prevalent.

Pink, how many doctors and scientists argue that human life begins before conception? Stop beating up a strawman here. That's all you're doing.

I am NOT in favor of legislating birth control. I AM in favor of protecting human life AFTER conception! If you're going to debate me, debate my position - don't talk about Onan.

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Public opinion on restrictions

In response to Response to Pink part two posted by Migisi:

Migisi,

Put to a vote, I believe abortion would be made illegal in the third trimester, illegal in most cases in the second trimester, and pretty much fully legal in the first trimester. I also believe that procedures such as "partial-birth abortion" would be illegal. And that some states would pass "informed consent" and 24-hour waiting period type laws.

Some doctors would argue that human life is continuous.
.
My point is merely that there is a cutting edge. Your point is that the "human" life begins with the conception. So, the "Morning After" pill would be a form of murder to you?

.
The pro-life movement isn't seeking compromises through 'restrictions'. It's agenda is the ~total~ ban on abortion - for any reason - during any trimester. The recent Supreme Court decision has them jumping for joy:
.
Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue: "The court has
now said it's OK to ban procedures. We can do more than just put
hurdles in front of women seeking abortions - we can put
roadblocks in front of them." (Associated Press, 4/19/07)
.
Roberta Combs, president of the Christian Coalition of
America: "It is just a matter of time before the infamous Roe v.
Wade...will also be struck down by the court." (USA Today,
4/19/07)
.
Leslee Unruh, an anti-choice activist in South Dakota who
helped lead the abortion ban in that state: "I'm ecstatic....
It's like someone gave me $1 million and told me, 'Leslee, go
shopping.' That's how I feel." (Los Angeles Times, 4/19/07)

Here in Vermont the anti-abortion movement also campaigned actively for banning the "morning after" pill, and has advocated (but not actively campaigned for) doing away with contraceptive pills.

Teaching that abstinence is the only answer is why so many young girls get "knocked up" among those who are taught thus.
.
I'm a firm believer in sex education; but, who is it that should do the teaching? The church? The family? The school? The local Bank? The Gummit?
.
We lack a good clear understanding of what it is that constitutes health care in the United States. We should work toward the institutionalization of our health as a nation.

How about we should teach our youngsters that having sex is their choice?
.
Then, would we to teach them how to make responsible choices?
.
I, recently, heard of a young teen age girl who has developed a serious eating disorder. She's sixteen and thin as a rail and has missed her period for three months. The parents are, naturally, extremely concerned. They are doing everything they can to help her out of her predictament; but, it's going to be a tiger. I trust they will be successful.
.
From what I know of these parents, they will use the situation as a teaching tool to help their daughter learn how to make responsible decisions for her self. And, she will grow to be a responsible adult. We need parents who teach their children to be responsible.

.
As you might know, sex isn't always a choice. Some people, young and old, are coerced, intimidated, or forced. How one deals with having no choice, however, IS a choice.
.
Then, would we to teach them how to make responsible choices?
.
I started teaching my kids about their bodies around the age of 7. We looked at books. I drew pictures and explained how things worked. Just as matter-of-factly and naturally as I taught them how a plant grows from a seed and how maggots become flies. It was important to me to start early so they'd know when touching was appropriate and when it wasn't. By the time they received sex education in school, my kids already knew the course.
.
If some would have their way, there'd be no remedy for making a bad choice --- forgetting or ignoring the fact that we ALL make bad choices about a lot of things from time to time.
