In response to Prayer in His Name. posted by HeadZenCards:

.
No doubt: Jesus-As-Written did not think he was the LORD GOD.
.
Imagine a new born-again Christian (like me, way back when) wrestling with the obvious contradiction between the malevolent OT God and benevolent NT Jesus/God.
.
One wonders why the benevolent Jesus would pray to the malevolent God and expect an answer.
.
Jesus said "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." (Matthew 21:22) Note he said you "will", not might. And note you'll receive "whatever" you ask for. So, how do we reconcile this:
.
In Gethsemane, we find Jesus suffering greatly, saying "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death." THREE times, he begs God to spare him. Now, Jesus certainly 'believed', so that couldn't have been the reason God ignored Jesus' prayers. I wonder what response believers expect when God wouldn't even answer his only son's prayers.
.
It appears to me the 'Father' gave his son a snake - when he asked for a fish (Matthew 7:9-11).
