In response to Respect For Progressives posted by Brother_Jones:
I asked:
What do you mean by worship? What does Jesus = God imply in terms of how a liberal OR non-liberal lives his/her life?
.
Brother Jones responded:
My experience teaches me that folks like you tend to believe that Jesus was not God, and therefore spend most of your life calling attention to the beautiful things in nature . . . .
.
First of all you didn't answer my questions. They were not intended as rhetorical, I want to know.
.
Secondly, you are (once again) making assumptions which have no basis in fact. Nature is a manifestation of God's love and creative genius. I believe I worship God whenever I stop to consider something beautiful he has created.
rather than the beautiful sacrifice made on the Cross
NONE of us, regardless of his/her beliefs, spends all his/her time talking/thinking about Jesus' crucifixion/resurrection. That's a faulty assumption to make, and you know it.
.
So you think prayer, worship, study, and acts of love are pretty high on the agenda of the Liberals here? Maybe so. But I haven't heard from that side concerning those things lately.
.
I was speaking of liberals in general, but it doesn't much matter. I wouldn't presume to know what others here do when they are not participating in discussions here. If you haven't heard any one discussing his/her life of the spirit, why not ask, rather than jumping to conclusions?
.
'Who do Liberals pray to?' is considered bad form. Liberals are pretty dogone touchy. Have you noticed?
.
"Who do Librals pray to" is (to my mind) an offenseive question. It implies that the asker of the question has one view of God, one definition of God, and maybe even one definition of what constitutes proper prayer--and that anyone who might have a differing view doesn't know God at all. That, to me, sounds judgmental.
.
it doesn't seem to bother you in the slightest when a friend decides that everything they once believed about Jesus is simply fairy tale material. But I am not like you.
.
Its not my job to control what anyone else believes. Its not my job to determine what anyone else OUGHT to believe. I don't believe it is the job of any believer to determine those things for another. Further, its been my experienct that telling someone else their beliefs are wrong doesn't accomplish anything. I can state my disagreement with them, if I choose--but I've learned the wisdom of picking my battles.
.
peace and love,
